What is happening?
Autodesk is offering a new named user subscription for Autodesk CFD Ultimate 2021. This consolidates the Premium and Ultimate offerings into a single, named user subscription. It provides customers with high-level functionality at a lower price point than current multi-user CFD annual subscriptions.
Why is this happening?
On May 7, 2020, Autodesk launched new subscription plans based on people and began retiring plans based on serial numbers. These named user plans provide a range of administrative, support, and reporting capabilities for businesses of every size. When will the changes for Autodesk CFD take place?
Beginning October 7, 2021:
- New named user subscriptions available for purchase.
Beginning November 7, 2021:
- New multi-user subscriptions can no longer be purchased.
Beginning February 7, 2023:
- Multi-user subscriptions can no longer be renewed.
What does this mean for me?
At the time of your Autodesk CFD renewal, you will have two renewal options:
- Renew your multi-user contracts for 1 year (you must renew before Feb. 7, 2023).
- Choose to end your current multi-user contracts and subscribe to the new Autodesk CFD Ultimate named user offering, at a lower price point than the multi-user offering.
Note: There is no difference in functionality between multi-user and named user offerings. Network simulation solving capabilities will still be available. Usage is limited to a single user, which won’t affect most users.
I received a 2-for-1 offer for changing some of my other Autodesk products to named user subscriptions. Does changing to the CFD Ultimate named user subscription let me get the same 2-for-1 offer?
Autodesk CFD named user is a new offering that does not qualify for the 2-for-1 transition to named user offer.
The pricing for the named user offering is lower than the multi-user CFD Premium annual renewal. Subscribing to the lower-priced CFD Ultimate named user offering provides greater functionality through the inclusion of Motion simulation features in the CFD Ultimate product. Current CFD Ultimate users will notice the discounted subscription price when comparing this new offering to their multi-user CFD Ultimate annual subscriptions.
Is CFD Premium also moving to a named user offering?
The named user offering has consolidated CFD Premium and CFD Ultimate into a single tier named user offering. This allows for a lower premium price point on annual subscriptions, while presenting the highest level of functionality seen within CFD Ultimate.
How will the named user offering influence my remote solving options?
Named users will still have the flexibility to solve CFD jobs on their own servers. The server will consume one instance of the solver, so the user can continue to work within the software on their local machine. See the Remote Solving topic in CFD Help for more details.
I participate in the Autodesk Education (EDU) community and currently have access to CFD Ultimate. Will I need to do anything to keep my access with this change to named user?
The Autodesk EDU community will continue to be able to access Autodesk CFD Ultimate. You don’t need to do anything to continue to use CFD.
