AutoCAD Civil3D 2018 introduced a raft of new features.This class looks at two of those new features, connected alignments and dynamic offset profiles and how they will change the way you work with Civil3D.We will also look at some innovative ways to use these new features for other things, not just junctions.Who needs the junction wizard anymore? This workflow gives you more control and versatility.

In this class, we will present a general overview of the tools and features of AutoCAD Structural Detailing software as they can be applied to process and power piping design. You will learn about the workflow in AutoCAD Structural Detailing and how to add and remove profiles from the working set of profiles. Finally, you will learn how to generate a structure model and detail drawings.

Have you ever had that user who modified a plotter setting and saved that setting globally for all—and now all of your users can’t plot correctly? This can happen with any customized file you deploy to a network shared location. In this class, we will learn how to take your global settings and customizations and deploy them locally to your users’ computers. We will discuss how to create a hidden network share to act as a master folder to house all of your custom settings. We will review using login scripts so each time a user logs on to their computer, a local copy of the master folder is synchronized per the master folder contents. From there, we will path our AutoCAD software options to our local folder locations and create a master profile for AutoCAD products. Finally, we will review how easy it can be to reset your CAD profile to your original deployed state. You can use AutoLISP programming language to very effectively manage AutoCAD-software-based products, although the way to do so isn't always obvious. The trick lies in using AutoLISP to control the command vocabulary while eliminating the need for cumbersome profile-based control of plotting, palettes, and device configuration pathing. We'll discuss how to create, delete, and redefine commands; load external executables; load CUIx and workspaces; control system and registry variables; and make your custom functions better behaved by using ERROR functions and declaring a global variable list for network-wide control. Along the way, we'll explore useful VL/VLR functions and code security. We'll present a sample network environment for context, and provide sample files for download after the class. The design of roadways is typically based on the development of an alignment, then a profile, and finally a typical section. Many users who design intersections, ramps, or widenings run into difficulties because the process in AutoCAD Civil 3D software assumes that the road edge profile is designed independently of the two centerlines. In this class, you will learn a technique that allows the use of the classic alignment–profile–section process to design a widening, a ramp, or the turning lanes of an intersection. This technique can be used for all types of corridors where the pavement edge elevations are to be controlled by a specified crossfall from another profile or surface.
