Description
In this session, we will teach you the best practices for exchanging data between Civil 3D software, InfraWorks software, Inventor software, and Revit software. We will get into the differences of the software interactions when using FBX or IMX or Autodesk; the differences between creating Inventor Parts (single body versus multibody) versus Assemblies (with skeleton modeling and iLogic) and their advantages and disadvantages; and how this translates to Revit for detailing and what you need to watch out for in Revit.
Key Learnings
- Discover the differences between importing an Inventor part or assembly into InfraWorks.
- Discover the differences between working with FBX, IMX, and Autodesk files for data transfer between each application.
- Discover Revit detailing capabilities based on the InfraWorks component type and the data format.
- Discover tips for smooth coordination between Autodesk products in an accelerated bridge design process.
Speakers
- Michel BeaulieuGraduating with a Mechanical Engineering Technologist degree from New Brunswick, Canada and being bilingual has helped me work throughout Canada and in various fields (Mfg & AEC). My career started back in 1984 when I went to work for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in the states as a summer student/apprentice. My background since then has been across a spectrum of projects ranging from Manufacturing, Building, DOT’s and more. As a result, the experienced received helped me become a natural leader and motivator and helps me forge strong customer relationships. My consulting and management experience combined with extensive application knowledge helped me start my own business in the early 2004, which I ran successfully until 2017 when I decided to join SolidCAD (Canada’s largest Autodesk reseller). While running my business, I acquired multiple Autodesk Professional Certifications (AutoCAD, Civil 3d, Inventor), including becoming an Infrastructure Certified Expert. I focused on developing workflow procedures and automating processes including work such as: Civil 3d dredging tools, Implementation of Document and Data Management projects (Vault), Courseware development (Autodesk), Pre-Manufactured Homes and Log Home software development and Implementation projects (Revit & AutoCAD Architecture), Canadian DND-Civil 3d Standards development and even a Revit 2 dwg conversion tool, still in effect and active today….
- Jae KwonJae Kwon teaches, consults and advises on civil engineering work flows for clients in all provinces in Canada as a technology consultant at SolidCAD. His prior work experience centered on civil engineering project on roads, railroads, site grading and GIS, as well as CAD management and standards development. He is a graduate of New Brunswick Community College Civil Engineering Technology program, with a focus on highway and municipal projects. His current areas of interest are multi-disciplinary workflows including bridge design, visual scripting, and civil infrastructure real-time rendering.
- Patrick SiemekPatrick Siemek is a BIM/AEC Technical Consultant at SolidCAD Solutions. He graduated from George Brown College, in Architectural Technology. After completing the program, Patrick developed a strong interest in the field, and shortly after completed a Revit Architecture Professional Certificate course from Humber College. Previous to working at SolidCAD Solutions, Patrick worked as an Architectural Technologist, where he earned valuable insight into the logical and critical thinking skills required to develop both an efficient and effective application of architectural technology for construction and building design. These skills helped Patrick translate them to working with SolidCAD. Over the years Patrick has gained expertise using Revit from all disciplines Architecture, Structure and MEP along with many other tools that are used during a BIM project workflow. Patrick currently supports, teaches and builds workflows for the AEC industry using products like Revit, AutoCAD, ReCap and other related products.
