Description

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has selected the design of its new Southern California headquarters located on a 19-acre site near the campus of University of California Riverside. The approximately 380,000-square-foot facility will be one of the largest and most advanced vehicle-emissions testing and research facilities in the world. It will also be the largest “net-zero energy” structure (producing as much energy as it uses) of its type in the nation. Learn how Hensel Phelps and U.S. CAD used the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection to procure, win, and manage a project through design into construction. Topics will include using Navisworks software as a starting point in design validation for AR/VR environments, using 3ds Max software with drone data to implant design in existing spaces, managing detailed level trade partner files for field validation using drone data and laser scans, using Civil 3D files to help quantify and manage earthwork, and validating coordinated 3D models in the field via use of tablets and BIM 360 Glue software.

Prior to joining U.S. CAD, I served as a BIM Manager and other Specialist roles at KPFF, where I designed and created 3D models, BIM Coordination models, which were used in the construction of commercial, residential, government, and roadway projects. I was also responsible for pioneering, testing, evaluating, and deploying CAD standards and BIM modeling practices for his entire team, as well as providing training and mentoring.     Luis is currently a VDC manager for Hensel Phelps. He has been working in the AEC industry since 2002 and began his knowledge of BIM/VDC software in 2004. As a resource for the Southern California district, Luis engages with the project teams from the proposal stage throughout the life-cycle of the project. His expertise in Autodesk software enables the project teams to make better decisions on how and when to best leverage the technology available. Interacting with all stakeholders has allowed Luis to better understand how to make the most of the Autodesk suite and engage everyone to collaborate efficiently with the complexities of challenging projects.
