Getting Railway Signaling into the Third Dimension

Diesen Kurs teilen

Beschreibung

From 2020 onwards, the German government will be obliged to apply the BIM (Building Information Modeling) method for all public sector infrastructure projects. This makes it necessary to create 3D models in the discipline of railway signaling as well. Up until now, plan documents for railway signaling have been created exclusively in 2D. This class will show the workflow involved in creating highly parameterized families out of profoundly structured Inventor components. We will demonstrate placing the families nearly automated in a Revit model with the help of Dynamo, based on data from the primary planning software. Find out which additional benefits the discipline of railway signaling can get in the future from applying the BIM method by using 3D models in a Navisworks clash detection for necessary sight distance checks. Finally, discover the advantage for railway signaling by using defined attributes to transfer data consistent to a 3D model to make it useful for civil infrastructure owners for operating.

Wichtige Erkenntnisse

  • Learn how to create BIM content as highly parameterized Revit families out of Inventor components
  • Discover how to efficiently create a 3D model by using origin database and Dynamo
  • Learn about using clash detection for sight distance checks
  • Discover specifics of railway signaling

He is working as Design Engineer for Control-Command and Signaling since October 2001 at the german railway company Deutsche Bahn. He has more than 15 years experience in creating plan documents in 2D using AutoCAD and AutoCAD based applications. 3D-modelling is part of his current responsibilities. He is member of the central workgroup Control-Command and Signaling at DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH.

I am involved in the design of railway infrastructure for almost 20 years, especially in the design of bridges. For that I use tools such as AutoCAD from the very beginning. 5 years ago, I started working with Autodesk Revit. Since then I have gained not only extensive experience in 3D modeling but also in application of BIM method itself and I acquired skills in other software products like Navisworks, Dynamo and RIB iTWO. Currently I am working as a BIM consultant in the southeast region of Germany. In this function I ensure that among the colleagues enthusiasm for BIM is aroused, knowledge is shared and skills are established, so that the BIM implementation in our company will be successful. As a member of the central BIM implementation team of DB Engineering & Consulting I am furthermore responsible for development of BIM content (Revit-Families), Revit user support, creation and updating of uniform basic principles, templates, workflows or the like.
