Beschreibung

The introduction of visual programming tools in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry has introduced a generation of building professionals to coding. Architects, engineers, contractors, and owners are changing their own workflows by mass-producing custom scripts, and in the process, they’re learning programming languages and methods. The result is often drastically increased productivity and a sense of user ownership to design processes. Sometimes it breaks and sometimes it crashes, but once you go down the rabbit hole, there’s no turning back. Yet, many who want to start, struggle with finding the right projects, teams, leaders, workflows, and even tools to turn coding into value. And many leaders are trying to figure out how to scale the abilities and knowledge of one or two coders to an entire organization. This talk will address both perspectives, and help designers and managers in achieving what we all want: better and faster designs, while having more fun.

Wichtige Erkenntnisse

  • Learn why architects and engineers should pick up coding in the first place
  • Learn how you can introduce programming workflows to your project and where you find resources to help you along the way
  • Learn from case studies how successfully scaled automation workflows using Dynamo and Python created value in projects
  • Learn how to scale the abilities and knowledge of one or two coders to an entire organization for exponential value increase

Referenten

  • Håvard Vasshaug
Håvard Vasshaug is a co-founder of Bad Monkeys, a global team of BIM and programming experts who helps people and teams build and own their digital building design and construction processes. Håvard has a Master of Science in Structural Engineering and uses his experience with providing Building Information Modeling research, development and automation to share knowledge of digital building design solutions. He regularly speaks about technical workflows, digital innovation and strategies for training at multiple international conferences and seminars, and receive wide acclaim for his talks and classes. He writes about BIM and visual scripting solutions on vasshaug.net. Håvard has a passion for using technological advances to design fantastic buildings, while helping others operate effectively and joyfully.
  • Jostein Olsen
Jostein Olsen is a BIM-specialist and structural engineer working for Sweco Norway AS. In Sweco, with a small stay at Bad Monkeys, he has gathered 14 years of experience in the AEC industry working on everything from small scale industrial projects to large infrastructure projects and even software development. He has a wide experience with practical BIM workflows and has dug deep into the wonderful world of programming. He has a passion for finding the practical middle ground between the BIM-idealists and the more conservative forces in the industry and thinks parametric modelling software and programming is closing that gap.
