More owners are implementing Building Information Modeling (BIM) into their facilities management (FM) strategies and project-delivery methodologies, but how are they able to ensure the success of these new workflows? Much like the objectives identified in our Autodesk University 2014 session (BO6648: Defining a Holistic Owner-Driven BIM Project Delivery Standard), The Ohio State University is exploring the "people" aspect of their BIM Project Delivery Standard (the external facing document for the architecture, engineering, and construction community) and the BIM Implementation Strategy developed for the university’s internal Project Team members. This session will explore the people, process, and technology initiatives of the 2 documents. We’ll also present the importance of educating the university’s staff on this new standard, as well as how to successfully implement the appropriate technologies and workflows, thus empowering the university to fully realize the opportunity to reduce the total cost of ownership of their buildings through the application of BIM.

- JPJoe PorostoskyJoe Porostosky is the Director of Facilities Information and Technology Services (FITS) at The Ohio State University (OSU), where he maintains 38 million square feet of space drawings and data, along with providing leadership to facilities-related data and document systems, including OSU’s Enterprise GIS. With a background in technology management, Joe has managed the FITS Team for the past 9 years, providing an active and strategic leadership role within the university and redefining the way his group works by using technology in new and inventive ways. As the leader for the BuckeyeBIM (Building Information Modeling) Initiative, Joe has led OSU in the adoption of BIM for existing buildings and for design and construction to improve the university’s overall decision-making processes and management of buildings. Joe holds a BS in computer science and an MA in public policy and management from OSU.
- BSBrian SkripacBrian is the firm’s Director of Virtual Design & Construction who continually drives innovation by merging technology and practice. He has 21 years of industry experience, with the last 11 focusing on the integration of BIM to transform the design and project delivery process. Brian has successfully developed and managed BIM-enabled delivery systems for large efforts in Design-Led Construction. In addition, he focuses on the use of BIM to capture and structure relevant facility data, implementing the value BIM brings to facility owners from an interoperable lifecycle management strategy. A thought-leader in this field, he is an advisory group member and past-chair of the AIA National Technology in Architectural Practice Knowledge Community and serves on the BIMForum committee responsible for authoring the LOD Specification.
