We will discuss ways in which Holder Construction has harnessed the power of laser scanning and related reality capture technology to supplement existing Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows. Laser scanning has the potential to fundamentally change the way in which we plan and coordinate construction work and interact with our built environment. While the technology may be relatively new to our industry, there are many high-value opportunities to use laser scanning to enhance our workflows and provide better-quality products to our owners at the completion of our projects. Software discussion will include integrating laser scan data into AutoCAD software, ReCap software, Revit software, and Navisworks project review software.

- DEDavid EppsDavid Epps has been in the construction industry for 19 years and has worked with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and virtual design and construction for 14 years. As a BIM manager David develops, integrates, coordinates, and manages digital intelligent models for design, construction, and facilities use post-construction. For the last several years he has been focusing on integration and consistency of BIM and related technologies across all Holder projects. This incorporates 3D visualization, options and constructability analysis; layout, laser scanning, coordination, and quality assurance /QC; 4D phasing, sequencing, and scheduling analysis; 5D quantity, cost, and attribute data extraction; mobile access of project models and documentation; and facilities management. He plays an integral role in departmental and company training, recruiting efforts, research and development, field integration, and the continual development and refinement of BIM standards and processes.
- AEAlex EdgarAlex Edgar received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in construction management from the University of Florida, and he has been working in the industry for over 10 years. As a senior engineer in Holder Construction’s Virtual Design and Construction (VDG) Group, Edgar is responsible for VDC activities throughout the lifecycle of a construction project, including business development, preconstruction, and construction operations, and transitioning to facilities management. Edgar has extensive experience with many project types, including data center, aviation, higher education, and corporate office projects.
