This class will introduce the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software as a construction-safety planning platform. We will introduce some effective practices and advantages of using BIM to identify potential safety hazards, find mitigation procedures, and prevent hazards in construction planning. We will show you how to connect a construction-safety database with BIM software, and we'll cover how the software can assist safety personnel to inquire about safety knowledge and conduct job hazard analysis efficiently. We will also show you several examples of actual projects that used BIM for safety planning and hazard prevention.

- SZSijie ZhangSijie Zhang is a graduate research assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology, pursuing her PhD degree in civil engineering. Her research focuses on the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) with construction management for the purpose of improving construction safety and health. Her research area includes BIM, virtual design and construction, construction safety, rule-checking, and semantic data modeling. She taught BIM for construction at Georgia Tech in 2012 and 2013. In 2012 she and her project team received the Best Integrated BIM Solution to Enhance Safety Award at CIB W099 International Conference, Singapore.
