This class will explore the implementation of an efficient workflow for 3D scanning of large plants. From laser scanning at the field until a point cloud, which can be combined with a 2D layout and 3D models, our scan projects count regularly more than 100 scans. After the scans are taken, the scans are removed from noise and then divided in layers according to the flow sheet. The buildings are also on a separate layer and divided into roof, walls, and floor. These scans are then combined in Navisworks software with a 3D model of a new line generated at our company. The 3D models are made with Inventor software. A 2D layout, which we receive from the customer, is also attached. This workflow has been improved on a lot since the start, and this is what we want to teach in this class. Recently we purchased a drone to capture photos at places that are not reachable for our scanner (for example, ducting on a roof). A 3D point cloud can then be derived from those photos and combined with the laser scan point cloud This session features ReCap, Inventor Professional, and Navisworks Manage.

He has already done 7 projects across the world, and he’s learned a lot. The resulting scan is then combined with a 2D layout and a 3D model of the new line. A 3D scan is very helpful for projects where a new line needs to be placed in an existing factory.

He is responsible for driving the Autodesk manufacturing sales channel in the Benelux region in Europe. Before joining Autodesk, Peter worked as mechanical design engineer at a Belgian marine engine and gearbox manufacturer. I’ve been working for 6 years at Sicoplan, an engineering office in Lauwe, near Kortrijk in Belgium. <br/><br/>At sicoplan I'm responsible for the management of all the design processes that are in place in our company. They are quite specific since we make large concept models (approx 60 000m² each) of facilities for the wood based panel industry on a high frequency (10 models/year with 40 people) base. To do this we work with various Autodesk products.<br/><br/>In the past months I gave a few lectures for Autodesk on the topic I want to present at AU: at AU Russia 2015 (management track and specialist track) and at the Future Of Making things event in Belgium and the Netherlands.
