We will present a case study that demonstrates how—by following the building information modeling (BIM) process and using the correct processes and tools—we have significantly impacted the HVDC (high-voltage direct current) planning, design, operations, construction, and operations and maintenance phases. Our presentation will address the challenges that the large energy sector industry faces, and provide concrete examples of how BIM has helped us, our partners, customers, and subcontractors overcome them. We'll present impressive statistics and metrics that quantify the remarkable benefits of BIM, such as reducing project costs and rework in construction time through BIM in our power sector projects. We will also show how, by rigidly following the BIM process, we managed to reduce our design errors by 98% from Project A to Project B.

Rohit DahiyaRohit is a Global Manager of BIM in the HVDC Engineering department. He holds a double Master of Science in Real Estate and Construction Management from KTH Stockholm and Structural Engineering from Amity Uni-versity, where he was interested in constructing infrastructure projects through model-based construction meth-ods like BIM. He focuses on improving design collaboration, enhancing the visual aspects of the models, and improving interoperability. With over 7 years of global experience in BIM, previously he worked with Trafikverket and Stockholms Stad as a BIM Manager for infrastructure projects. He joined the company in 2019 as a consultant and later joined as a full-time employee. He started as a BIM Manager and then moved to a BIM Lead position, since October 2023 and is now heading BIM departments globally.
Onur ErkanOnur Erkan is the Product Owner of BIM and LCI Strategy at Hitachi Energy, HVDC. He has a bachelor's degree in architecture from Bahcesehir University in Istanbul and a Master of Science in Urban Design from Istanbul Technical University. With more than 12 years of experience in BIM and VDC, before joining Hitachi Energy in 2021, he worked in ProCS Engineering as a BIM Implementation Consultant for various contractors for their international projects and Renaissance Construction as a BIM Manager for its local and international large-scale public, residential, commercial projects to manage and fulfill their multi-dimensional complex BIM scopes. In addition to contributing to Hitachi Energy's exciting goal to become and secure its place as the digital design and construction leader in the HVDC sector, he also shares his experience in Istanbul Technical University's BIM Specialist Certificate Program as a guest lecturer.
