Total Team Collaboration with Fusion 360

LISA DARRAH: All right, so welcome to Total Team Collaboration with Fusion 360. I want to make a quick note is that in the product field for the class description, there was an error. I tried to communicate this out to as many of you as possible, but if you're here to learn about Infraworks 360, I am not going to be talking about it today.

So you can gracefully leave right now, and I will not be offended. But I just wanted to give you that heads up because today we're talking about Fusion 360, Fusion Team and A360 Team. All right? OK, so the summary for today is about collaborating with Fusion 360 and Fusion Team. So we'll be checking out the new upcoming features and functionality, and also giving some smaller instructional demos.

Basically what the hope is, is that you'll review your current day-to-day workflows and utilize them to increase your productivity in your projects and in your teams. There's also been a handout uploaded. I strongly suggest you download that. The demos will be going step by step over the items in the handout, but there's also more details on the things that I cannot cover and the demo take

So introductions. Myself, I'm Lisa Darrah. I've been with Autodesk for almost 17 years. I started out in product support, moved into QA, and then eventually into project performance management. My background is in architectural design, manufacturing design and graphic design. And I am a certified PMP. My co-speaker.

JEREMY LAMBERT: Hi, my name is Jeremy.

LISA DARRAH: All right, so the safe harbor statement. This is basically an eye chart. So I'm going to summarize it for you. Any purchasing decisions or I'm sorry, anything that we discuss in today's class should not affect your purchasing decisions about software or any major decisions around products that you're going to buy.

Because we are going to be showing you some features of things that are currently in development that are not released yet. And there's also things that we're showing that are in production, but you just can't make purchases on that. OK? All right. So do the best that you can until you know better. Then when you know better, you do better.

This is actually one of my favorite quotes by Maya Angelou. It reminds me that how I know myself, I get into a routine where I continually will do something just because it works. And I don't change it, because it gets the job done. But the problem is, that if we don't take the time to learn about something new, we can't do better.

So I'm glad that you guys are here, because I plan to give you an overview on the new options and features, like I said, to expand the options in your toolkit. So today as we're going through the demos and talking about the things that we're going to be, new features and functionality that we're releasing, I want you guys to think about this. So you can either take some notes or just draft some things behind your phone.

But first and foremost is how will Fusion 360 or Fusion Team or any of these features make you your time more productive? That's ultimately what we're looking for. The next thing is, how will this make your teams more efficient? How will the collaboration tools that we talk about today make your job more efficient and your teams more efficient?

And then finally, because I am going to be talking about classes that are available, since this is one of the first classes of the week, classes are available where they are offering kind of a deep dive on some of the features that I'm talking about. So as you're going through and listening to what we're demoing and talking about, just make some notes. I will be presenting the classes that are available. But if you have questions on trying to find a certain class, you can definitely come to us afterwards and ask us.

All right, so I want a show of hands. I did talk to some of you when you guys were in here earlier. First and foremost, how many of you are using Fusion 360? OK. How many are you are using the personal hub for Fusion 360? How many are you using the Team Hub? All right, we got it pretty good. How many of you don't know what a person or Team Hub is? Good. Honest people, also.

All right, so right now all Fusion 360 customers have access to a personal hub. Soon you'll be able to have access to create Fusion Team Hubs. If you have a Fusion Team Hub today, you actually can access that. We're just going to make it a lot easier in the coming months to create that Team Hub.

The one thing I'd want to suggest though, is that if you're working for a company, that you find out from either your CAD administrator or just in general, talk to someone in your company to see if they have an existing Team Hub. Because you would actually want to just join that Team Hub. So one of the questions that some of you had asked about personnel and team when I asked you about personal Team Hubs, is what is the difference between a Team Hub and a personal hub?

So most of the features that I'm going to be demoing today and Jeremy is going to be demoing today, those are in personal hub, but we do have ones that you have to specifically use a Team Hub environment in order to use that functionality. Team Hub actually allows collaboration within a group of team members, stakeholders or customers. And you can interact with them on their files, including CAD files.

So with the new AutoCAD function that we're talking about, that's specific to the Team Hubs. In addition to that, the hub administration tools that provide role based security, those are available on the Team Hub environments. And that allows who can view the data, download and edit the team data. So the first demo that we're going to have today, the format of the class is going to be, you're going to see this demo slide. Then we're to switch it over to an actual live demo. And then we'll come back and just give you an overview of what you saw.

So the first one that we're going to be talking about today is the Fusion 360 with Fusion Team and the interaction between that. The key things that I'm going to be talking about is just the general overview. The first thing we're going to look at is the viewer, and I'll give an overview on that. The second thing that we're going to demo is the live review, which that's an interactive portion. I'm going to put up a [INAUDIBLE], if you have a mobile device with just a web browser, you can log in with that. And then I'll give a overview on the admin functionality and Fusion Team.

All right? So I'm going to switch over. So what you're looking at here. I think most of you have seen this view. This is the Fusion Team view. I'm sorry, Fusion 360 view. To access Fusion Team, you can go in here and select Open details and web. Again, this is similar on how you would access the personal hub for Fusion. So I'm going to click on this, and we'll actually open up the viewer page.

So in the viewer page, we have the navigation bar at the top. This navigation bar is actually bright like breadcrumbs. It will tell you what the file you're looking at it, will actually show you the folder that you're in , and then this is the project name. So at any time you want to know where you're at, you can look at the breadcrumbs to find out where you are. The Home icon will take you back to the home page of your Team Hub, which I'll show you that in a little bit.

The next area's the versions. So we have the ability to do version compare or even promote a version. So if we have a number of versions here, you can select those and compare those versions. It would actually show you the difference of the two. So for the Overview tab, once you select this, this actually gives you an overview of the data that you're looking at.

So up here we have the name of the file. It shows here if this is in use. And what that means is, that I currently have this open in Fusion 360. So it also will tell you if this is what type of file this is. In this case, it's a Fusion design. The shared link toggle. I want you to remember this, because I'm going to be talking about the sharing functionality in the next few steps.

But this is another area that you can actually toggle the shared link on or off. And then if we scroll down, you can see that there's design references. And what this actually shows, is where is the information that you're looking at being used. So currently it shows there's eight uses in here. But then if it was used in other assemblies or other sub assemblies or other drawings, it would show that information here. And then the drawings that are attached, the 2D drawings would be shown here.

And if you scroll down a little farther, it will actually show any related data to this. And in this case, where there's four renderings, because I have different versions available right now that I'm actually in the second version of this, it's currently showing that my version's out of date. But then you can select View and update that.

Over here on the right-hand side, we have the comments activity feed. This will actually show any of the comments that are done to the model. And it will tell you who had said them, and you can actually view and manage those comments as well. And then to get back to the viewer page, you just select View.

So the next thing here is that we have the edit designs functionality. If you click on this, there's two options. So we have Edit in Browser, which is the web-based Fusion 360 that will fire that up. And then Edit on Desktop will basically take you back to the desktop client for Fusion 360. So the next tool is the comments. So this is very similar to what it was in the Overview page.

You can add new comments here. You can actually reply to comments and review any of those and if you click on this, it will actually show you the comment that was made and the thread that's part of that comment. To exit out of this activity feed or just collapse it, you click on the comments again. And then close this guy, and it will actually go back to the main view.

So sharing. So the sharing functionality, there's three options. I'm going to click on the Share option first. And within this, it will show you the toggle. It lets you know that this is, the shared link option has been turned on for this. This is the actual link that you would use to either, you can copy this, you can send this over like messenger, you can actually select the email option, and then send out an email with a link. And then you can also embed this in a wiki.

Now by default, the sharing options are turned on. Or I'm sorry, the Download option is turned on. So if you do not want the users that you're sharing this information with to have the ability to download this to their computer, you need to make sure that you turn that off. The other option as well, is the require a password. So you can actually add another layer of security to this by toggling on the ability to require a password and then enter that password in here.

So I'm going to close this out. The next option under the sharing is the live review option. So I'm going to click on this. Actually, I have a live review open. And let me get to that slide. So I'm going to show this really quick. If you guys want to join this, I'll give you a few minutes. But basically, all you have to do is open up a web browser on your device, whether it's your tablet, your computer, your phone. And then you can enter in this address. I'm going to give you guys a few seconds to do that.

But what you're going to be joining or what you're going to be doing while we're discussing that or why you're doing that, basically live review is a feature that allows you to interactively collaborate with your project members, your stakeholders or your customers. And this is all done online.

The nice thing about it, is that if you're doing this, your stakeholders or customers or anyone you're doing a live review session with, they do not have to have Fusion 360 on their desktop. They basically just need, like you guys are doing right now, they just need a web browser to do this. All right? I hope I've given people enough time to log in.

So I'm going to switch over to the web browser. And I see a few people have logged in. So what you see here is again, this is the link that gives you the option to copy and send this out to people, to let them know, hey, you can join the live review. So in this case right now, what you see over here is that there's a red dot. And this lets you know who's currently in control of this.

So you can expand this. I'm going to close this guy. And you can see all the people that are currently in the live review session. So yeah, we've got quite a few people in here, cool. The other nice thing too, is that you can select the messages. And it'll show you the messages. It's not showing us the messages. OK, let's try that. There we go. I'm trying to see if there's any messages in here. I see a lot of people joined.

But then you can interactively discuss things in the messages. It does roll up and the feed does go, I'll just go in here and type this in. Hello, all. I'll scroll down. There we go. All right, it keeps scrolling back up. So anyways, with the live review session, as I mentioned, the nice thing about this is that you don't have to have the Fusion 360 desktop client installed on this. OK?

And when you're done with this, you simply select the end option at the top. And this will close the live review session for all the users that are currently in that. So right now, it says we have 12 participants, 45 new messages. But we'll go ahead and move on. I will leave that open during the session of the class, if you want to play around with it, but I'm going to move on to the next portion of the demo.

All right, so let's go back. So go back to the web. All right, so now we're back to the viewer page. Underneath the Export option, you have the ability to export your file and a number of options. Now this is going to actually change based off the type of file that you're viewing. So in this case, we're reviewing a Fusion Design file, so these options are available to download.

The next option is we have copy, move and delete. And this basically will allow you to copy your files, move your files or delete your files. And then Jeremy's actually going to show some functionality a little later in the demo about being able to copy across projects. OK. So now I'm going to move down to the bottom of the screen here. And we have our viewing tools.

So the basic viewing tools, these are, I think most of you probably are aware of these, but if not, we have the orbit functionality, we have pan. These are our camera interactions that allow you different camera views. This is zoom or zoom to window. The next one is our markup tools. So we have the markup functionality. I showed this in one of the comments earlier. But if you select on this, it will bring up a markup toolbar. So there's a bunch of number, of different options for commenting.

So if I select on this, I can basically pull out a point here. And you hit Save. A JPEG will appear of the comment itself. And then basically, the comment node will show up here, here as well. The ability to see the comments, as I showed up here as the activity feed, you can also select this down here. This tool will actually give you the option to comment on objects or comment on points. This will take away all the little markers, the comment markers, if you just want to view the data.

So the next tool set here is for the option to explode the model. Some of you were doing that in the lab review session. But you can slide the slider bar for the explosion factor. If you want to shut that off, you just select that again. So there's a section analysis. So you can section off a certain plane. So in this case, I've selectioned off the wide plane. And then you just drag this and the section will update.

And then we have the measure functionality as well. And then the final one is just your basic print option. These are the property options for the model. This is the settings for the viewer, and also, this is the full screen setting. So going back now to the actual Team Hub, is that I will select the Fusion. You can select the Fusion F or you can select the home option.

And once you select this, this will give you the project overview page. Here is actually in a Team Hub you have, these are all the projects that you're either a member of or the owner of. And we'll show all the projects that are available here. These filters at the top, basically you can have pin projects. These are all the projects. Or you can filter by projects that you own or projects you share with or the option for archived projects as well.

In order to pin some of the projects, I'll just really quickly show you this. Is that you can go down to the dropdown options here and you can pin the projects. There is also, so if you already have them pinned, it will, if you just click that again, it will unpin it. This option here is to create the project. If you select Create, the Create Project dialog will appear.

This is the activity feed for all the projects that are currently on your Team Hub. So any of the information. Or I'm sorry, any of the modifications to the files, any files that were uploaded, those are all going to appear over here in your activity feed. All right. So the next thing I'm going to go over is the admin portion.

So the only way you're going to have this option is in a Team Hub, And if you're the admin of that Team Hub. So if you select this, you have some settings in your Team Hub that is the Team Hub settings, the members and role settings, and then the project settings. So the Team Hub, you basically can edit the Team Hub to be whatever name you would like that to be by selecting Edit.

Project contributor access. If you edit this, this basically allows you to have project contributors to your project. If you have project contributors in your project and you disable it, then any of those projects, or I'm sorry, any of those project contributors that are a member of your Team Hub will no longer have access.

But if you're asking yourself, well, why should I have project contributors to my Team Hub, you want to basically ask, do you need to invite external collaborators, like customers or vendors or basically design partners? Or do you want to restrict the number of users who create projects in your hub? If that's the case, then you want to invite those users as project contributors

The next one at the bottom here is the team invite mode. So if I edit this, and I'll show you this really quick. So you have three options. You can have the admin invite only. This basically allows only admins to be invited to the hub. Admin approval means that everyone who is invited to the hub requires approval of the admin. And then the last one is no admin approval. Anyone can be invited to the hub who signs up to become a team member.

The next area is the members and roles. So under the members and roles, we have basically all the members of the hub, and you can administer those members. You have the pending invitations and also sent invitations. You can invite users here. There's also the ability to deactivate users if they're no longer a member of that hub, or you no longer want them to be a member of that hub.

And then there are a few options as roles. So you have team member, team administrator and project contributor. Now as I mentioned, I go into detail what those different roles are in the handout, so make sure you do download that. Under Projects, these are actually a list of all the projects that are in the hub as well. And you have the option to manage the roles in the project or archive the projects.

So if you select Manage roles, you'll see in here that specifically to a project, you have the ability to edit the project, to, I'm sorry, to have an editor role, a viewer role and a project admin role. And then this will give you a display of all the team members within a project. And you can actually make them a project admin if you like. OK?

So I'm going to go back to my presentation. All right, so let me, not from the beginning, sorry about that. So just as a recap, we had a overview of the Viewer Page and the features in that. The library functionality, which I'll be closing out shortly, so that Jeremy can do his demo.

The overview page where we talked about the file references and the features in that. And then finally, the admin page and the options and the roles that are available once you are an admin of a Team Hub. All right, so I think up next is Jeremy. So if you want to, I'll shut mine off, so we don't get feedback hopefully.

JEREMY LAMBERT: OK, good. So, so far, so good. Nope. Thanks, OK. So.

LISA DARRAH: We have to switch over to that screen.

JEREMY LAMBERT: Yep, not yet. So what I'm going to talk about now is some enhancements that we've recently been making to Fusion Team. And I want to talk about the significance of these improvements. So one of the things that I, when I sit back and reflect on personal versus team and why you'd use one versus the other, the way that I can look at this is, if you're just doing your own work, your own projects at home, some enthusiast type things, using a personal hub's probably perfect for you.

But if you are looking to do something from a business perspective, where you may want to drive some, start to see some standardization come into play, control who's in your hub, start to build out your own concepts of libraries of data and reuse, this is where you want to start to take a look at Fusion Team.

And one of the things that we've done with the team environment is introduced a new concept called Cross Project References. So what this allows, as it sounds, is the ability to start to create content in one particular project and reference that data into other projects. And I'll show a few examples of that using Fusion 360.

But if you think back about the number of design tools that we have with Autodesk, many of them have the ability to reference one bit of content into another. AutoCAD refers to this as xreferences. Xref is a pretty common term, right? In Fusion 360, we have the idea of linked models. So it's a similar kind of construct in Fusion 360.

Challenge that we wanted to overcome is the ability to start to build out containers where you can control permissions and securities of who can get to this data. And then be able to reference that content into another project. To promote the ability for design reuse, to create libraries. So you can start to standardize in how you implement your designs and have everybody using the same type of components within their designs of Fusion 360.

And so this is where Cross Project References got its origin. So go ahead and switch over to eight. We'll take a look at that. OK, so I've just got a very simple little example here. I'm going to walk you through some of the environment. I'm going to build on some of the concepts that Lisa was working with.

So first of all, inside of Fusion 360, one of the things that you have that allows you to manage what you're working with is the data panel. And you access the data panel, you have this little button up in the upper left-hand corner. And this essentially gives you a view of much of the same data that you can get to within Fusion Team. But it just gives you a condensed view of this, so that you get to the things that you need while you're in Fusion 360.

So here you see I have a list of projects at my disposal. And the one I'm working with right now is called Ember Spark. And I'll just go ahead and into that particular project, and you can see I've got one design here. So to open the design, you just simply right-click and open. And that's how I got to this particular dataset.

Now if I wanted to go to the team environment, Lisa showed one way to get there earlier. Another way to get to the team environment is to simply select the name at the top of the data panel. And that will start up my web browser and take me directly into Fusion Team. And so you can see the same type of dashboard or landing page that Lisa had earlier.

And this gives me, again, a very similar view. This is the list of all of my projects that I'm working within. And within Fusion Team, as Lisa was showing earlier, you've got this concept of security and management of the users getting access to data through this concept that we call a project. So all the projects are listed right here at the top level.

And so if I go into Ember Spark, you can see that I've got one design here. And you can see my project members. I'm the only one inside of this project. I've got another project that I'm going to be working on called New Concept. Inside of that folder, you can see I've got a couple of participants here or project members. So I've got myself, Jeremy, and then my alternate ego, my Gmail version of myself called Gmail Jeremy.

And so I can assign or invite more people to work on this particular project. But as Lisa was showing earlier, this is the tier, this is a layer in which I can control who's participating in a particular project and control their status. Are they an editor? Are they an admin? Are they a viewer? So I've got some basic permissions here that I can work with.

So one of the enhancements we made, was the ability to reference these designs across projects. And this allows for design or data reuse. So for example, I built out a folder or a project, excuse me, that I call My Library. So if I'm in a team environment, I want to do a lot of data reusing and start to condense and put all of my standard content into a particular project.

Maybe I'll break down projects by discipline. Maybe I'll have a project for mechanical and hardware. Maybe I'll have another one for electrical. You'll base it on what you need to do for your organization. But within here, you can see that I've got several different folders that contain content that I may want to reuse over and over again. So I got my electrical content. I've got some on my fastener content in here. And so this makes a really good approach for me to take some designs and insert them and reuse them versus duplicate and recreate this content.

And to be able to reuse this, it's pretty straightforward. So now I can just select the object, insert it into my current design, and it's going to pull that content into my Fusion design now. As a result of that insert, what I'll have is a linked model. So let me go ahead and complete that. And if I scroll down here within the model tree, the browser, you can see that I've now got a linked model at the bottom here.

So this is how you would, you'd start to pull together multiple pieces of content to build out a structure to complete your design. So you could do some in context design or you can now start referencing and reusing content. Now with this Cross Project References capabilities, this allows you to start moving content across projects.

So for example, a new enhancement that came with this, is the ability for me to take this. I'm working in one project, you remember I was in a project called Ember Spark. But I want to take the project I'm working with and I want to save it into another project container. So this is something that has been enhanced. So you can see here now within save as dialog, I can browse and pick a new location.

And rather just picking a folder, now I can go back up a level, move over to another project and select a new location. So I'm going to save this to my new concept folder. Let me just change the name here. Now I've saved that content into a new project. Just a nice, easy thing that makes life easier within Fusion 360.

Now as part of that change, one of the things I realized is that I may have mis-structured my data. So before, you had to get the content in the right project, moving it across projects was just a limitation that you had to foresee ahead of time and deal with. With the enhancements with Cross Product References, now I'm able to just simply move this content or copy this content from one location, one project to another.

So in this case, I'm just going to move this component. It was in my electrical folder. It's not really the right location for it, so I'm just going to move it over to another project called Printer Base. That'll take that content and move it. One of the cool things about working with content that's cloud-based is, that move, even though the content was already open in my design, I can move content around from project to project.

It really doesn't cause any interference for me. If I was to try to do this with a local design tool or installed design tool like Inventor, it would be a little bit of a challenge. But being able to move this content while I'm in the context of Fusion's something that's very easy for me to do. So I'll show you a little tip and trick here within the data panel.

So I've created this new design in my project called New Concept. And I'm just going to dive in here a little bit deeper and take a closer look at this. So in order to see the references, I could look at this within the browser here. But let's say, for example, I didn't have something open. One of the things that I can do is select this little version one here in the thumbnail. If you haven't seen this before, and it'll give you more information about that design.

So you can see the version history, but it'll also give you the uses and the where users used in, so you can understand the references without opening the design. And then from here, I could also select the Open command and open up that component in its own window. So it gives you the ability to do some maneuvering throughout your projects within the context of the data panel, without ever having to leave Fusion 360. Pretty cool little tip.

OK, so one thing I wanted to show is how the references are managed and the permissions are managed. So you see here within New Concept, I mentioned earlier, I've got Jeremy in here, and then I've also got Gmail Jeremy in here as well. And I've got a reference. And that reference, if I select this design, you can see I've got another component that I've referenced in here, the base assembly.

And that's in a different folder. Remember I did the move? It's in a different project, excuse me. I get my nomenclature confused. It's a different project, because I did that move. If I go check out that other project, you're going to see that there's an interesting dynamic that's going to form here, because the Gmail version of myself does not have access to this component.

So if the Gmail version myself attempts to open up this design, I'll be missing references. And this is something that we just simply didn't allow before in the past. But with the Cross Project References project, we've made some enhancements here that they'll support this. To make that change, I'm showing some early software here. This is some work that we're making improvements on right now.

So I'm going to switch over to video, so you can see this. So I've signed in with my Gmail alter ego. What I'm going to do now, is attempt to open that same component here from the data panel. And what you'll see is upon selecting that, I'll do a right mouse button and open. And I'm going to get a dialog box that appears that warns me that there's a problem with this design.

But it also gives me the opportunity to fix it. So I'm just going to pause it right there. So this new message that pops up tells me that there's references that are required for this design that I don't have access to. And rather than just simply arrowing out, what I'm going to have the opportunity to do, is request access to the project administrator to get access to that component. So at least it gives me a path to resolution here. So that's a nice enhancement that's on its way with Fusion 360.

So let's go ahead and switch over to the other screen. Again, just to recap some of the things that you saw, was taking the concepts that Lisa was going through with projects and project administration and now taking those concepts and moving them forward into data organization, starting to create projects that you want to organize your data into, setting your permission model there.

Then using prior Cross Project References for data reuse now. Opening up some new workflows that make using Fusion 360 a lot easier. Then finally, take advantage of this capability to start building out your own libraries to drive some consistency across your organization with Fusion 360 and Fusion Team.

LISA DARRAH: So the next item up is our AnyCAD Preview. AnyCAD is actually available in Team Hubs only, like I mentioned, but is available as a preview right now. You can access this from the profile dropdown and select AnyCAD in the preview options. So with this new feature, you'll be able to reference almost any CAD file while maintaining full file associativity without translation.

And so it basically will not affect any of the files' data that you have. If you have a Inventor IPT file, Solidworks file, Creo. It will leave the data in that format, so we won't have any issues with the translations or migrations of that data when bringing that data into Fusion 360. So then I'm going to start the demo portion of the AnyCAD work.

So also with the AnyCAD functionality, you'll need to have first off, as I mentioned, the Fusion Team Hub. But you also have to have the desktop connector with Fusion 360. Desktop Connector's a new tool that we have actually just released. So I'm going to go back and open the details. I have to save the file. So while that's doing that, I'll just open up Fusion.

On the home page, if you select your profile dropdown, this option here, it's called Desktop Connector for Fusion. So this is basically a cloud drive. We have the ability to see the providers for that in your Windows Explorer or File Explorer, in this case. So you'll see the Fusion 360 connector here.

Once you select on this connector, it will actually show the Fusion Team Hubs that you have available to you. And then you can take that data and drag and drop specifically, like your Inventor or your Solidworks data into that drive. And then that will allow you to bring that data into the cloud.

So in this case here, this is my AU demo hub that I'm using. The files that we were just looking at, the R2 D2 one that I was using, the saw one that I'm going to be doing the demo on right now, those are visible here. And I can drag and drop that data from Inventor or any of those other CAD programs, and they will be imported in and available through Fusion Team and Fusion 360.

So let me go back to Fusion 360 here. So what I have is this motor housing. So this is a motor for a reciprocating saw. So I'm going to insert this. I select insert into current design. So again, this is actually bringing in the IPT file and maintaining the references to the Inventor file.

So I'm going to assemble this. Say OK. So now I'm going to save this and just add this, that I've added the motor housing. The nice thing is that because this is still referencing the Inventor file, if someone actually has the file open and they're using this, any edits that they do to the file will actually, you will get a notification in Fusion 360 that someone has edited the file and the file's out of date.

So in this case here, I'm going to select this and just make a minor change so that it prompts the update. I'll finish the sketch. Let's make it a little more visible. And I'll make this brass. So now I'm going to save the file here. And then we will return to Fusion 360. And while that is updating, it does take, it's not very long, but it does take a moment.

As Jeremy mentioned in the Cross Project References demo, we also show a linked icon here that shows that this data is actually linked to data from another dataset. So as you see here now, I have the warning that this basically lets me know, hey, this component's out of date, because someone's edited it and saved it. You also get the little alert here on the component itself.

To update that, you select the update option at the very top. It will update. And then your changes will come through.

AUDIENCE: [INAUDIBLE]

LISA DARRAH: Pardon me?

AUDIENCE: [INAUDIBLE]

LISA DARRAH: So the link is that desktop connector that I was saying that you needed to download previously, is that the Inventor will utilize desktop connector to pull those data, pull that data into the cloud. So you're saving the files from Inventor to your cloud drive. The cloud drive is recognizing that there was a change in the file. And then now it's prompting, it's pushing that change up to Fusion 360 and letting you know, hey, there's a change. You need to update your data. OK?

You also get the notice here that it says, this data in the folder has been refreshed, please update. So we'll go ahead and refresh that. So then I'll save this and just say change to brass, I'll say OK. And then again.

AUDIENCE: What's the file extension for this data?

LISA DARRAH: Pardon me?

AUDIENCE: What's the file extension?

LISA DARRAH: So this is actually a Fusion design that I've imported it in, so this is an f3d. But the IPT file still is retaining its file format, yes. So you actually can see that here. You can see this is called the motor housing IPT, and that's what I inserted into the design. It's still an IPT. Now if I was to right-click on this and select Open, it would actually do the translation process of bringing it in as a Fusion 3D, or I'm sorry, Fusion design file.

But because I inserted that, it kept the original format of the file. And as I said, this works with Inventor and Solidworks. This is new functionality, so there are a number, very small set of data files that we're supporting right now in the preview environment. But we do plan to expand on this in the coming--

AUDIENCE: [INAUDIBLE]

LISA DARRAH: Yes. Yes. Agree.

AUDIENCE: [INAUDIBLE]

LISA DARRAH: I'm sorry?

AUDIENCE: [INAUDIBLE]

JEREMY LAMBERT: Not at this time. So the current functionality that Lisa was just demoing supports specifically Inventor IPT or part files. And software is part files as well.

LISA DARRAH: But as I was mentioning, it is very early. It's in a preview state. So we are trying, we are planning to incorporate different file formats in the future.

LISA DARRAH: Pardon?

AUDIENCE: He's talking about [INAUDIBLE].

LISA DARRAH: But also to show that with the data being in the cloud and in the cloud drive, those updates that were done actually in Inventor, are also visible in the viewer in Fusion Team as well. So this was the brass part that I had changed that file and made those modifications to. OK? Yes.

LISA DARRAH: So it will show, I'm sorry, what? Yeah, so if you click in here. I'll go ahead and give you a quick demo. So I select, this is the saw one that we're working on. This will show all the IPT files. Is that what you were asking?

LISA DARRAH: Oh, I don't think we show the Fusion. We do. Yes, we actually show the Fusion designs.

JEREMY LAMBERT: Just a quick note on that too. So what we're doing is, Lisa's browsing what we call a virtual drive. And within that desktop connector. So this is almost as if you're navigating with a web browser, but within the context of either [INAUDIBLE] or Windows Explorer. So she's seeing the same content we see in Fusion Team.

The difference here is this content for desktop design data, let's say Inventor, when you're selecting the Inventor content, you open it up in Inventor or AutoCAD content, if you open it up in AutoCAD, we'll cache that data. We'll pull it down locally, so that the application itself can open that up and put it in memory. With Fusion 360, it's a cloud-based application, so there's no need to download that content. So you can browse it, you can see it. But if you select it to open, what it'll do is it'll either start up Fusion 360 if you don't have it started, or just open it up in that [INAUDIBLE] session.
