In this class, you'll learn from a bridge engineer who successfully designed almost 40 bridges using the InfraWorks-centered bridge modeling workflow. You'll see an overview of the workflow and get advice on how to implement it efficiently for a real-world project. Following an overview of the workflow that includes road modeling in Civil 3D software, bridge setup in InfraWorks software, preparation of parametric bridge parts in Inventor software, and production of drawings via Revit software, this class will teach you how to prepare a virtual environment in InfraWorks for ease of workability and sharing of data sources via Autodesk Docs. You'll learn how to exchange the road models between InfraWorks and Civil 3D, including modification of road assemblies for bridge modeling in InfraWorks. This class will demonstrate modeling of individual bridge parts, such as abutments in Inventor or Revit. You'll see the preparation of drawings in Revit and related fine-tuning of the bridge model in InfraWorks.

This session will focus on exploring the 4D scheduling collaboration process, from source models in Revit and Civil 3D software, to creating data-driven animations in SYNCHRO 4D and photorealistic experiences inside Unreal Engine. By bringing model and schedule together, week after week, our team has refined the models and schedule. Together, we reviewed the schedule, asked meaningful questions of it, and corrected any errors we found along the way. This class will use the case study of the Ontario Line Technical Advisory megaproject (CA $10.9 billion) and share the novel workflows that were adopted for establishing a seamless, dynamic, cloud-based connection and 3D coordination across multiple design platforms. We will demonstrate how these teams worked together to define innovative workflows for enriching transportation design models with the time dimension to perform constructability review and construction planning in interactive and immersive 4D models.

This session will present an integrated digital workflow that creates alternatives by automatically reviewing the risk of traffic accidents, earthwork volume, and design standards using a digital design model of roads when performing linear improvement on roads with high volumes of traffic accidents. This technology implemented the digital design procedure of the road with Dynamo and Python, based on Civil 3D software. In addition, the traffic accident risk index of the road section was reflected in the algorithm. In particular, the road design standards were digitized based on XML and reflected as evaluation models in creating alternatives. Through this process, the digital alignment of the road that minimizes the occurrence of traffic accidents is optimized within Civil 3D, and a digital road model is created that presents multiple alternatives by collectively reviewing the calculation of earthworks and whether the road design standards are satisfied.

As we integrate digital exchanges into our daily workflows and delivery processes, we need to maintain a good handle on the data associated with our digital assets and files. By continuously analyzing our models and data, not only are we able to maintain high levels of efficiency and productivity, but we are also ensuring that our models and data are suitable for downstream uses. Dynamo and scripting within Civil 3D software can play a key role in the creation, management, quality control, and delivery processes throughout the design lifecycle. In this session, we'll explore several ways design teams can extract, analyze, and react to the data being mined from our Civil 3D models, and set us up for future success along the way.

In road design, there are lots of cases where road elements vary a lot. And the typical way of introducing different road elements in the section is to design an assembly for each section you need. Road designers will arrive to a list of road sections that burden them with managing each assembly. This consumes more time that should be used in designing. In this class, you'll learn how to use protocol decision-making subassembly that will help designers create a "smart assembly” that has an algorithm that inserts, removes, modifies, or merges road elements by means of parametric design. This will change our way of road modeling altogether. Creating a massive list of sections that are difficult to manage will be a thing of the past. Building a smart assembly will improve efficiency in modeling complex road sections. And it will ease designers from managing a massive list of assemblies and improve their workflows in road modeling, leading to a more sustainable and efficient workflow.

Technology in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is changing rapidly. To keep up with this accelerated pace, VHB is stating that our default design practice will be model-based design (MBD) by 2025. This means training 800+ Civil 3D users in more-automated, connected, and advanced workflows. We recognize that to create this large-scale shift we need to train a generation of innovative and inspiring coaches to help guide others through this change. Advanced MBD Training was created to mold 10% of our Civil 3D users into MBD Project Coaches. As MBD Project Coaches, they'll be expected to advance MBD from automating processes to creating more-efficient workflows. The training will focus not only on our core tool, Civil 3D, but it will also include Dynamo, InfraWorks software, Subassembly Composer, Grading Optimization, ArcGIS Connector, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Twinmotion. This session will walk through how we built and implemented this program to accelerate change at VHB.

With the rapid advance of technology, why should we be limited by outdated hydrology and hydraulics methods? Although public domain software has made 2D hydraulic calculations accessible, the simplicity is debatable. Many organizations use gravity pipe networks for all underground piping, even pressurized pipes like water mains, despite the fact there is a specialized pressure networks toolset. Sounds crazy, but there are reasons for this, including long-established workflows with pipe networks, as well as shortcomings and learning curves of pressure networks. It boils down to time and money: is it worth taking the plunge? In this class we'll shed light on that exact question. Brian Levendowski will walk through the good, the bad and the ugly of Kimley-Horn's implementation over the past year. It's not all rainbows and unicorns, folks! Charlie Ogden from Autodesk will walk through recent key updates, such as controlling pressure pipe runs with alignments and profiles, as well as stability and workflow improvements. The aim is to give you a solid understanding of what pressure networks can and can't do, enabling you to decide whether they're right for your organization.

Asset management using machine-readable and harmonized information will be critical in the future. Several development projects are underway in the field both internationally and nationally regarding the standardization of information. As buildingSMART describes it, "An Information Delivery Specification (IDS) is a computer-interpretable document that defines the Exchange Requirements of model-based exchange. This can be a combination of Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), Domain Extensions, and additional classifications and properties [either stored in buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD) or somewhere else]. It holds the ability to create localized and use-case-specific requirements for your projects. The IDS is the missing link for predictable and reliable data exchange workflows.” This session will present a use case and demo of a bSDD add-on for Civil 3D software. The add-on was developed by Ramboll and is part of computational design development strategy. The objective is to use data content effectively during the entire lifecycle of the object.

Corridors are a crucial aspect of many Civil 3D models, but they can sometimes be time consuming to create, modify, and manage. This class will explore how Dynamo for Civil 3D can be used to improve efficiency in all aspects of corridor design and management. This class will cover workflows for corridor creation, corridor geometry manipulation, subassembly management, quantification, and style management. We'll explore how to use the Python node to interact with corridors using the Civil 3D .NET API, expanding upon the functionality of existing nodes. Learn how to best use Dynamo to streamline your workflows and processes when working with corridors in Civil 3D.

In this class we will talk about the most-updated workflows to build a multi-version Dynamo package that includes: ZeroTouch nodes, explicit nodes, extensions, and view extensions. The class will be structured to explain step by step how to set up the Visual Studio solution, how to make sure there is a robust version control system, and how to deploy for Dynamo Core or Dynamo hosted. We'll touch on how to use GitHub Actions to streamline the release pipeline and we will use NUKE Build to do it. NUKE is an extremely powerful framework that allows basically everything you can think of in terms of automated pipeline. There will be much more, including some bonus topics on adding Rhino Yak packages too. Is this the latest model? Why don't I see the utilities? Why did we even do this in 3D? Engineers do not typically care how construction documents get created; they just want to capture their design intent. This course will go over some exciting new workflows and software that enable civil site and building/facility disciplines to easily reference one another, dynamically. We'll also discuss why engineers and project managers should be adopting the "model first” approach as standard practice for design projects.

Have you encountered any challenges when creating a site context 3D model for a new project or proposal without sufficient survey data? This class will focus on workflows that will enable you to better create, evaluate, and communicate conceptual designs using InfraWorks software, Civil 3D software, and Revit software. We'll demonstrate how to build concept models from scratch by using the InfraWorks Model Builder tool, and we'll make modifications to the surface in InfraWorks by using imported 2D layout data from AutoCAD software and Civil 3D. Also, we will show the bidirectional workflow between Civil 3D and InfraWorks for grading design options and exporting out as IMX from InfraWorks to Civil 3D and converting them as toposurface in Revit for site work via publishing surfaces and linking topography to and from Autodesk Construction Cloud. Finally, we will cover the best practices to append the InfraWorks-exported FBX into Navisworks software for federated model with collaboration options like Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360 and Shared View/web view links.

According to HABITAT III, roughly a quarter of the world's urban population—equivalent to the combined populations of Spain, Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and the United States—lives in slums. In São Paulo, IBGE found that 1.2+ million people live in slums. These areas are becoming increasingly dense, which poses a challenge for sewage and drainage systems. Paraisópolis is the densest slum in São Paulo, and its streams have been occupied by housing.
