The possibility to make anything can be overwhelming. Sometimes you just need a picture, a plan, or a push in the right direction. If you don’t know where to start in Dynamo for Civil 3D software, but you’re eager to know what can and cannot be easily automated, then this class is for you. In this class, we’ll walk through the specific steps of creating at least three scripts in Dynamo for Civil 3D. These scripts will automate some of the mundane tasks you do in each of your designs. From placing a legend on multiple sheets, changing text to all upper case, turning on and off layers, adjusting line types of your design based on the type of plan sheet you are creating, or inserting trees at a specific interval along an alignment—Dynamo can do it! At the end of this class, you’ll understand the basics, and you’ll have a few time-saving tools to use within your own projects, and the knowledge of how they were created.

This presentation will outline the new workflow that DeWalt Corporation has implemented to dramatically improve the efficiency of its laser scanning, processing, and modeling. Attendees will learn specific tools, tips, and tricks that the firm implemented to quickly perform 215 targetless laser scans in a 600 foot by 600 foot detailed oil-treatment facility. The firm used ReCap Pro software to register and clean the scans. The final deliverable was an as-built 3D model for phase 1 of a facility redesign project that included tanks, vessels, pipelines, steel pipe racks and pipe supports, ground surface, and more.

In this class, we will explore the use of Connected Alignments, advanced features of Corridors, and modeling workflows to design complex roundabouts as part of peanut-shaped and diverging diamond interchanges. We will use Offset and Widening, and Alignments/Profiles derived from Corridor to automate layout, grading, and 3D design modeling.

In this class, we’ll cover Civil 3D software and the new Grading Optimization program workflow. One of the most time-consuming tasks in Civil 3D is optimizing the design surface for your project. Using the new Grading Optimization program can greatly reduce the time you spend on this task. We'll walk through a basic site and demonstrate how to set up your Civil 3D design for the Grading Optimization program.

You will learn the basics of 3D solid modeling with AutoCAD software using only about 10 new commands. Included are a lot of practical techniques, tips, and caveats with real-life models. My goal is to give you a solid introduction, demonstrations, and a roadmap to 3D solid modeling that will make you functional in an hour with as few commands as possible—and to avoid overwhelming you with information.

There is a great deal of interest in how the Leap Motion™ Controller is going to change the way we interact with 3D modeling and visualization tools. This class focuses on the steps that are needed to define a simple, gesture-based user interface to AutoCAD software using the Leap Motion SDK. We look at a way to enable AutoCAD users to navigate 3D models using gestures, as well as different techniques for allowing geometry creation and manipulation. We take a look at the relative pros and cons of gesture-based interaction with 3D systems in an attempt to assess whether this mode of interaction is likely to prove popular in our industry.

This class will show how we used the AutoCAD OEM CAD platform to create a mobile application that will enable users to process point clouds and create precise, detailed, and fully textured 3D models in the field. The discussion will explore how to exploit a Windows Surface Pro tablet's touch-based inputs through the use of a stylus and finger gestures. In particular, we will also demonstrate how to map traditional AutoCAD software commands onto the stylus controls. Due to a lack of real estate on tablet devices, creating an uncluttered, simple user interface is paramount to creating a successful commercial tablet application. Using the AutoCAD OEM platform, we will show how to reduce the amount of exposed functionality thus exposing only a few essential commands to the user via a clean, uncluttered interface. Lastly, we will demonstrate how to package the application with only the relevant menus, icons, and splash screens to create a finished commercial application that has a small install footprint suitable for a tablet platform.

This lab will guide attendees to explore nonconventional shapes and forms and unusual geometries, and make that stuff to become real and BIM. The scope of the class is understanding the combined use and interoperability between Revit and Fusion 360. Fusion is a software with an incredible potential for the architectural design: why not explore it? The lab will also introduce attendees to setting up a file with Fusion 360, the main modeling techniques, and the best set of file formats inside a BIM process. The "sculpt" environment will then be used as well as traditional solid modeling techniques and methods. Attendees will be guided to model a complex and unusual set of architectural shapes, taking as reference the Deconstructivism architecture style. These shapes will then be used inside Revit to continue the BIM authoring process and take advantage of the parametric engine.

You will learn how to define fire source and smoke generation, and to explore results visualization and extraction tools. You will discover how to highlight and measure important results from smoke simulation to evaluate life safety. You will also understand the "critical to approvals" aspect of smoke simulation results. We will demonstrate the importance of geometry simplification, meshing, and simulation processes in Autodesk CFD relevant to producing a reliable smoke simulation. We’ll also discuss useful tips, tricks, and best practices.

This class can help beginners in 3D modeling understand the benefits gained from Generative Design in Fusion 360. Basic-level users will up their own levels in preparing 3D models for Generative Design in Fusion 360. High-level users in 3D modeling and simulation will know some tricks from manufacturing. After this demo, designers and engineers will be able to do projects for and with Generative Design in Fusion 360 faster and more effectively.

We'll start with some advanced demos to show you what is possible, and then we'll take you step by step through the simple process of creating your own 3D-enabled website. To get the most out of this class, a basic knowledge of programming and/or web development would be helpful, but it's not essential.

Dynamo is capable of much more than patterning. In this class, we’ll demonstrate the latest improvements to the Dynamo Player. We’ll show you the broad variety of possible applications for Dynamo and the Dynamo Player, including the generation and modification of NURBS, subdivision, and construction elements. Dynamo Player can help you create highly customized tools and increase the efficiency of the way you handle daily routine tasks in all kinds of different areas. Since the introduction of Dynamo Player in Alias 2021.2 software, each Alias release has come with a variety of new Dynamo and Dynamo Player tools. We’ll also share examples of how to use Dynamo and the Dynamo Player to create your own tools inside Alias. In those examples, we’ll also address the common problem of working across multiple surfaces.

Victoria Hand Project (VHP) is a charity that designs and deploys low-cost, 3D-printed prosthetic arms in developing countries. VHP provides medical professionals in low-income countries with the tools and training to create custom prosthetic arms. VHP has developed software solutions which use Autodesk Fusion 360 software to efficiently create these devices. Recently, VHP struggled to create prosthetic devices for upper-arm amputees (i.e., above elbow), due to the complex geometry of the 3D scans and the in-depth knowledge/workflow required to make the devices. Through the new Autodesk Fusion 360 Product Design Extension, VHP can now organically convert the complex mesh bodies of upper-arm scans into solid bodies for further 3D modeling. This has substantially improved the workflow of creating upper-arm prosthetic sockets, and allows for automation using APIs. This empowers VHP’s in-country partners to create custom upper-arm prosthetic devices quickly and easily, allowing for improved access to prosthetic care.

Microsoft Project is a strong scheduling and management tool that’s used all over the construction market world. We’ve implemented an innovative workflow that uploads Microsoft Project data directly into a custom web cloud environment shared between stakeholders with security permissions based on project, schedule option, and user role. This maximizes our current tools and easily brings their users into a cloud-based building information modeling (BIM) environment. The developed custom web site implements the Autodesk Forge platform, which connects uploaded data in the cloud with 3D modeling, boosting the information into a new visual format. This workflow has greatly shortened the time it takes to get updates to the 4D dimension of a BIM project and has increased the benefits of its implementation.

Come to this class to learn how you can use an engineering-based generative design tool for concept development. Autodesk Fusion 360 is consistently growing in popularity as a hard modeler for production/concept design. The combination of generative design and exploration of the form tool (T-spline modeling) can yield diverse results. In addition, generative design can produce a wide range of models with different manufacturing and material properties. Each result can be adjusted for density and then modified with the form tool and/or solid/surface modification. As a bonus, there are mesh tolls for added modification and combination with additional data sources.
