In this class, we will present the use of Autodesk CFD for a new building project with a goal for net-zero energy compliance. The building and construction industries are responsible for about 40% of the global energy use and about 30% of the global carbon emissions, contributing to climate change. Energy-optimized building design is one of the green building principles that, by 2030, could reduce the carbon footprint and achieve reduction of building-related emissions by 50%—and deliver net-zero buildings by 2050. In an endeavor to design energy-efficient buildings, adoption of new technologies for enhancing indoor environment quality, thermal quality, and lighting quality are imperative. And implementation of such technologies needs validation for performance. Modeling and simulation software such as Autodesk CFD could be used to estimate the performance of the built environment and compare different design decisions in order to realize the opportunity to reduce energy consumption and, therefore, carbon emissions.

This is often due to the construction industryﾫs workflow process which results in silos in the building process. In this showcase, the building owner will present one of their latest projects: a 22,000-square-metre office building. You will learn how the owner could eliminate the information silos and enhance the building quality through integrating the project process in BIM 360. Further you will learn why the owner required all the design consultants to use Collaboration for Revit.

For today's architects to meet their ambitious sustainability goals toward net zero, new building materials that can sequester carbon emissions and replace petroleum-based products must rapidly enter the construction industry. In this session, we'll look at a case study where leaders in industrialized construction, composite manufacturing, and biomaterials technology joined Autodesk researchers. Together, they developed a carbon sequestering facade system by replacing the typical petroleum-based foam within fiberglass reinforced facade panels with mycelium fungi composites, a carbon-negative biomaterial. The session will describe the developmental journey from material research and performance validation to the use of Autodesk Forma and Autodesk Fusion 360 software to design the facade for a Californian housing development that meets sustainability, habitability, and construction project goals. Discover the rise of biomaterial building products and how today's construction companies are reducing their facade installation schedules with this approach.

One Team leads the development of the Digital Building Logbook (DBL) in the context of Horizon Europe's BuildON project. Serving as a centralized repository, it aids the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry's journey toward climate neutrality and a more circular economy. The DBL captures diverse building data, from general details, administrative records, construction data, and energy performance metrics to operational information and smart building data—collected throughout the building's lifespan. This effort aims to streamline the organization of diverse data types and address challenges related to disconnected data. Using the AEC Data Model API, the DBL will enable efficient data queries and powerful search capabilities to extract rich data from models without the need of authoring tools, effectively mitigating disconnected data issues common in the AEC industry. The DBL enhances user experience by breaking down data for various user personas across the building's lifecycle.

Dynamic shifts have emerged in the digital realm of building design and physical methods of off-site fabrication. Buildings are increasingly manufactured/assembled rather than constructed/crafted. This class will present these digital procedures for modelling buildings in Revit whilst simultaneously assembling and managing your building components through Dynamo and into Inventor for fabrication. This entails navigating a hierarchy of linked/nested Revit models, families, and formulas; aligning the design BIM with detailed fabrication models in Inventor. Dynamo will be applied as a tool to automate, annotate, and design the building layout with assembled components. Orchestrate the building model, drawing sets, and work instructions in Revit alongside Dynamo to lay out building components, visualise building data, component relationships, and simultaneously assemble Revit components for building site context, component assembly in factory layout, and final modules in transportation.

According to GRESB's 2022 data (the global ESG benchmark for real-estate financial products), 2025 is the estimated average expiration date for the market attractiveness of offices worldwide in terms of meeting CRREM (Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor) energy efficiency standards. In other words, as we move toward net-zero emissions by 2050, the market value of a building that does not achieve the required energy efficiency rating is likely to decrease. It's vital the building sector adopts circular economy principles, moving away from the linear "take, make, dispose" model toward a more sustainable and regenerative approach that prioritizes resource efficiency, reuse, and recycling. Digital twins support the operational phase of a building and develop into digital logbooks, which is crucial at end of life because its help ensure safe and sustainable decommissioning/repurposing, preserves valuable information, and supports compliance with regulations and standards.

This hands-on lab covers Autodesk® software workflows to quickly create 3D building models and perform conceptual energy analysis using existing building geometry, operational characteristics, and local weather data. Resulting energy reports can indicate which buildings perform poorly compared to modeled energy use; managers can then prioritize retrofits and renovations by evaluating various energy conservation measures. We examine use cases and workflows for each solution and use Autodesk® Green Building Studio® to explore potential energy savings and sustainable design alternatives. We will demonstrate how Autodesk's CREFTS (Corporate Real Estate, Facilities, Travel, Safety, and Security) Team has linked systems to trigger tickets within BIM 360 Ops, providing quick notification to facilities operators of system events within their facility, resulting in proactive management of building events.

In this class you will learn how Steelway Building Systems was able to integrate it's current estimating and design software with Advance Steel detailing software via GRAITEC’s user PowerPack utility and XML integration. We will look at a number of real-life projects and discuss in detail our workflows, including integration with 3D design software and building modeling that has elevated the level of the projects that our company is now able to handle. We will also discuss integration with fabrication equipment, as well as future plans.

SAMSUNG C&T uses digital twins to optimize building operations. We have developed a digital twin with BIM and AI in an office building with a total floor area of 100,000 square meters, and we are utilizing it to operate the building. The basic functions are the Energy/Asset/Space Management, and Virtual Tours. In particular, the energy management function monitors building energy usage in real time. And we have developed 10 solutions for energy management that can save energy while maintaining the comfort of occupants in the building. These solutions are derived through AI-based machine learning models and optimization algorithms to provide real-time notifications to building operators for sustainable and optimized building energy management. Therefore, SAMSUNG C&T aims to provide efficient building operation and management services by simultaneously implementing digital spaces, going beyond the role of a construction company that constructs physical spaces.

Automated plan review that is integrated into Building Information Modeling (BIM) can ease the pain of achieving compliance with building codes. It also can have a big impact on an architect's bottom line, an enormous impact on your client's bottom line through expediting the permit and commissioning processes, and it can even impact city revenue by accelerating property and sales tax receipts. In this presentation, you will see an innovative process designed for using Revit software with software for automated plan review. After adding building code information to the BIM model, the add-in acts as a client to send data to a cloud service that assesses whether the building complies with particular sections of the International Building Code. Results are displayed as annotations of the BIM model, enabling quick alteration to achieve compliance. A plan-review report aids authorities in assuring that the building is ready for a permit. Automated plan review can disrupt and change the building industry by offering benefits to all stakeholders.

One of the most difficult aspects of performing energy analysis on existing building projects is calibrating the simulated results from the energy model to the building's actual energy use. Accurate calibration depends on utility billing data or trended performance data from the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) being properly integrated into the energy model. To the novice, this process can easily double the modeling effort, killing a project’s budget. In the first part of this session, you will learn how to build a simplified energy model in Autodesk® Vasari Beta 1.0 software and calibrate the model to monthly utility data in Autodesk® Green Building Studio® web-based software. The second half of the class will cover how to calibrate the simulated results of the DOE2 energy model to the actual building’s energy performance as captured by a properly configured BEMS system. Both of these strategies will be covered in a case study on the Autodesk headquarters building in San Rafael, CA.

Design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA) principles play an integral part in the development of prefabrication and modular building construction projects. In this class, we'll discuss specific lessons learned in applying DfMA to building construction for designers, construction managers, and trade partners. Using examples from recent projects, we'll explore the processes and tools used to make DfMA successful. We'll highlight the best practices and strategies for implementing DfMA to projects all along the spectrum of prefabrication, from single trade assemblies to full structural volumetric modules, and how we're pushing the boundaries in utilizing Revit, Navisworks, and Autodesk Construction Cloud in the design of industrialized construction projects. By the end of the presentation, you will have a deeper understanding of the DfMA rules and rails for building construction and how to apply them to your own projects.
