It’s been estimated that building construction projects contribute 40% of the waste in landfills, and that buildings produce one-third of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, use 25% of global water, and use 40% of global energy. The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry must fundamentally rethink how it designs, constructs, and operates the built environment for the world to meet its climate change reduction goals. GDF SUEZ Energy Romania specializes in providing natural gas to over 1.3 million consumers, all through an immense and intricate pipeline network covering 16,000 kilometers. In 2007, GDF Romania embarked on creating a new and more efficient network for the natural gas pipeline. Initiated from scratch and managed with the company’s internal resources and equipment, the collection of field data related to the pipeline distribution would take two years to complete and would be contained within a single, centralized database. The team made extensive use of AutoCAD Map 3D Enterprise software (formerly Topobase™) in regional offices, created a web platform on Autodesk® Infrastructure Map Server to share the information across the company (more than 600 users), and worked closely with Autodesk Consulting to create the best and safest asset management system possible. This class will help you to better understand the challenges and the key factors of this successful implementation.

Architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals need interoperability between their BIM (Building Information Modeling) and geographic information system (GIS) tools to solve, plan, design, construct, and manage projects in a sustainable and resilient manner. They need tools to optimize materials use, energy use, human resources, and the long-term impact on the natural world. Connecting Esri’s GIS solutions with civil and building BIM improves coordination and efficiency. Enabling data to flow between these GIS and BIM solutions enables a more sustainable and resilient world. This session will discuss and demonstrate how location intelligence helps built and natural environments to thrive. Customer examples will be presented with an emphasis on sustainability topics highlighting Civil 3D software, InfraWorks software, and Revit software combined with Esri ArcGIS. The moderator of this session will facilitate a series of five-minute presentations by multiple customers using Autodesk and Esri software to produce work that addresses these topics.
