Horizontal machining centers (HMCs) have many advantages, and some disadvantages, over their counterpart. Many struggle with efficiently programming or getting started programming HMCs. This Fusion 360 instructional class will advise different workflows on setting up and programming an HMC. We'll demonstrate tips and tricks to make programming and machining times quicker and more efficient. We'll showcase several example posts and operation property modifications you can utilize to make the programmer’s and operator’s jobs much easier. With these methods and a bit of machining knowledge, you'll have more confidence in programming and optimizing the efficiency of your HMC.

This class is designed for existing users of the Fusion 360 3D CAD platform who are looking to take advantage of the CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) capabilities. Topics covered will include prototyping and production strategies, better use of 2-D operations, better use of 3-D operations, the workholding of best practices, and 3+2 and indexing strategies. This session features Fusion 360.

Inspired by the integrated product-development capabilities in Fusion 360 software, this class will walk through the advantages of using the multidisciplinary workspaces (ECAD, modeling, CAM) of the product-innovation platform. You will learn how to save time and money while avoiding frustration by rapidly exploring iterations of a design to optimize a printed circuit board (PCB) and mechanical components for an electromechanical assembly. To fully encompass the design process, we will use ECAD and EAGLE to address basic PCB design principles. We will then use the PCB design to create a parametric electromechanical assembly in Fusion 360, after which, we will use the CAM workspace to develop machining operations for the mechanical components. Finally, we will make a design change to the base PCB component, and we will update the assembly model and CAM operations to illustrate the efficiency and interdisciplinary communication benefits of integrated product development in Fusion 360.

This session will look at the PLM journey that Spirax Sarco has undertaken. Spirax Sarco, a 100-year-old company with nearly 40 overseas operations and a global manufacturing network, embarked on its Fusion Lifecycle PLM journey in early 2016. Over the last year this journey has presented many challenges but also many more opportunities than first considered. The learnings from the rollout approach, stakeholder management, and early adoption techniques will be shared. We will share the positive learnings that we will take forward on our journey, but also highlight the pitfalls. Focus areas will include large-scale organisational change, launching a global quality solution, global engineering change, and the launch of a group technical support hub to serve Spirax's 1,300 sales engineers in the field. This hands-on lab will introduce engineers and designers to the world of using CAM to program computer numerical control (CNC) machines and its connection to the design process. Through a series of guided exercises in Autodesk Fusion CAM, you'll gain practical experience in setting up stock material and coordinate systems, choosing tools, defining machining operations (including machining boundaries), simulating the toolpaths, and generating G-code for a CNC milling machine. This session will equip you to better communicate with CAM programmers and optimize your designs for manufacturability.

In this session, we'll focus on the road map of features and functionality of all the previously released workspaces, those imminently due for release, and those further along in the pipeline. We will feature some cherry-picked in-product demonstrations of the functionality of all the workspaces, while still imparting the vast breadth of capabilities Autodesk Fusion 360 has already acquired and the depth of potential awaiting you in the near future.

In this talk, we'll do a deep dive into many examples of people productively applying Fusion 360 to common and uncommon production problems in furniture and millwork, with lots of tips and tricks for all levels of Fusion 360 users. Whether coming from AutoCAD, an AutoCAD plug-in, or Inventor, you'll discover the advantages and limitations of using Fusion 360 for production woodworking. We'll also get into the fantastic CAM and manufacturing toolsets that are built right into Fusion 360 that will greatly accelerate your production, whether you're CNC-empowered or not!

Fusion 360 software now offers a simple workflow for programming industrial robot arms. Anyone familiar with post-processing machine code from Fusion 360 can now create robot code in the same way. During this lab, users will use the manufacturing space from Fusion 360 to generate robot native code that can drive industrial robot arms. First, we will show a generic robot workflow within Fusion 360 that will post with the ABB post processor. Then, we will cover exporting code into a virtual robot simulator, ABB RobotStudio, for validation. We’ll then pivot to recordings at Autodesk Technology Centers, explaining calibration of various coordinate systems localizing the robot arm and robot operation for milling applications. We’ll introduce other applications that participants can use with this workflow, such as welding and additive. Finally, we will share various case studies from Autodesk Technology Center residents and customers utilizing Fusion 360 for industrial robots.

In this class, you will learn how to best identify parts for redesign. You will receive a few examples and then see in Fusion 360 software how to redesign the parts keeping design-for-manufacturing (DFM) rules for metal additive manufacturing (AM) in mind. The goal is to redesign the parts using simple operations in Fusion 360 to see that you don't need an organic topology optimized part to get an economical use case. You’ll learn the limits of metal AM and when it is definitely not smart to use this technology.
