In this class, Uwe Rossbacher, industry specialist for technical surfacing/styling at Autodesk, explains the unique principles of Class A automotive modeling. Specifically, he addresses the importance of modeling beyond the theoretical edges of a model, a key skill for top technical surfacing specialists in the automotive industry.

We'll discuss using Revit energy modeling and Green Building Studio cloud-based service to improve sustainability and produce better buildings. This will include a demonstration of a custom Dynamo mass-making tool that translates a design intent spreadsheet into Revit masses. We'll introduce beginners to conceptual energy modeling and provide a step-by-step process guide, including useful hints and potential pitfalls. We'll use real-world examples to demonstrate our energy modeling process, and we'll include comparisons with other common energy modeling software to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of Revit energy modeling.

Building information modeling (BIM) plays a pivotal role in design, construction, and operations, integrating multidisciplinary data to paint the full picture of the project for greater visibility and decision making. That picture starts to get blurry and unreliable when data isn't accurate or relevant. How do you cut through all that noise to deliver a usable and trustworthy model / data set? Every model goes through distinct phases: authoring, preparation, and actual use. The model can have many downstream uses, but for it to be of value, the model itself must be prepped and the rich data within organized. We have assembled innovative virtual design and construction (VDC) leaders at Gray, Metromont, and Accenture to share how they approach complex models to ensure quality and data-driven deliverables. They will share the processes they have in place to perform QC checks of the models for construction preparedness, and they'll discuss data curation from models and field data to prepare for AI workflows to inform future projects.

This class will introduce and discuss the Autodesk Model Performance Analytics Dashboard, a tool that lets BIM managers, IT managers, project leaders, and firm leadership monitor Revit model health. The class will introduce the tools and the metrics it collects, and then discuss the steps to implement the tool in a 50-office structural engineering firm with 100% Revit adoption. We’ll discuss the key findings and improvements noted as a result of having visibility into the health scores. Finally, we’ll discuss other approaches to creating dashboards for tracking model performance in architecture, engineering, and construction firms.

And have you ever wanted to de-feature a model quickly and easily without spending countless hours scrambling through the History Tree? Well, you can! With Fusion 360 software! It has Direct Modeling built right in! In this class, you will learn tips and tricks regarding how to edit imported geometry with Direct Editing commands. Need to remove that embossed logo from a model, or move a rib 2 millimeters to the right? No problem! You’ll also learn how to heal corrupted geometry using the “Wound and Heal” methodology in Direct Modeling. And, finally, you’ll see how you can use Direct Modeling techniques inside a parametric workspace to quickly and easily get your concept from your head onto the screen. This session features Fusion 360.

Many may think that one should separate Navisworks software and BIM 360 Model Coordination on a project by choosing one or the other for clash modeling. This could not be further from the truth. This class will highlight case studies of recent Tetra Tech projects that have resulted in a greater than 50% drop in average time spent at the end of projects for disciplines resolving clashes by using BIM 360 Model Coordination and Navisworks. Attendees will learn how to easily start working within BIM 360 Model Coordination, which will enable an earlier start to clash coordination in the project’s design cycle before running a more comprehensive clash analysis using Navisworks. This class will also provide tips, tricks, and innovative processes for working on projects in BIM 360 to easily set up the BIM 360 Model Coordination service, and we’ll cover the new features added in 2021 for bringing these results into Navisworks.

Learn how to use direct modeling in Fusion 360 software to heal imported geometry using the "wound and heal" method. See how easy it is to defeature models for 3D printing or finite element analysis. Need to make a change that would bring a history modeler to its knees? See how easy it can be done with direct modeling methods. Finally, see how to design models using direct editing methodologies.

When 3D modeling replaced 2D CAD, only the detailing method changed—not the way data gets transferred to steel fabricators (much of the knowledge in the model is lost). So, while detailers benefited, steel fabricators are still getting the same information in the same format. But now it’s possible for fabricators to extract better information from the Advance Steel software model. American Institute of Steel Construction’s IFC for Steel Fabrication Specification is available directly from Advance Steel software to feed fabricators’ production-management systems and workstations. The new workflow involves sending a single file that a fabricator can use to extract all the information needed for fabrication, including 2D and 3D views, connections, and material information. From there, it’s possible to manage and organize the project ready for fabrication, optimize material, and create the data required to drive and track computer numerical control or manual workstations. This class will work through the process and review the benefits of model-based fabrication. This session features Advance Steel and BIM 360 Glue.

Autodesk brings into play a new automated workflow for precast elements, turning slabs and walls into assemblies via automatic segmentation. Automatic reinforcement, shop drawings, and CAM files then step in to complete the design process. Respecting designers' and fabricators' perspectives and switching between different levels of development are some more key benefits of embracing a Revit-software-based workflow. But no model is truly complete until multidisciplinary coordination between structure, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), and architecture is achieved, which is greatly enabled in this all-Revit-software-based solution. The purpose of this class is to demonstrate a Building Information Modeling (BIM)-connected design-to-fabrication workflow from Revit for a precast model, and we'll also explore some other great productivity and modeling tools dedicated to precast that are delivered by Autodesk partners.

Have you ever received a model and wondered what’s inside? Or questioned how the model was put together? Do you have issues with your model performance and don’t know where to start looking? We are not just talking about the geometry but the metadata and how the model has been put together. This session will look under the bonnet of the Revit model and assess the quality and suitability of the data so that a valid assessment can be made of what the model can be used for and if it is safe for you to integrate into your own data set. The session will discuss Quality Assurance and introduce a process/tool that utilizes Revit capabilities for management along with applications such as Autodesk Model Checker and Dynamo, accumulating into a report that details how compliant and suitable the model is.

Surface modeling is an efficient and accurate way to create existing 3D models, and you can use this existing geometry to add proposed geometry. This class will start with the importance of the way in which the original scan data must be processed in order for it to become a useable format. The attendees will then work through how to manipulate the point cloud in order to create 3D geometry of the existing structure. We will show attendees how to overcome problems that arise during surface modeling. We will also show how this geometry can then be used in other Autodesk, Inc., software, such as Inventor software. The class will introduce a unique way to create existing 3D geometry and show how one can use this in other Autodesk software.

This session will discuss content, tools, and workflows developed to support the creation of a Revit model and documents from design phases through design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA). Implementing Revit software for design phases is in many ways much different than doing the same for downstream phases, which often is not an issue, since the teams are separate and working in different models, and maybe even in different software. The challenge of taking one Revit model from early design through manufacturing is unique. We've learned many lessons and had many opportunities to think outside the typical design approaches to Revit through using Assemblies and Assembly Views; creating various versions of detailed and accurate bills of materials; and developing content, tools, workflows, templates, and more to accommodate all phases of modeling and documentation. This session will share some of the most interesting challenges, and how they were overcome.

The life of a model begins in design, or even in early concept stages, but it extends throughout the project lifecycle. It takes on new shape and functions. It's enriched as it progresses from one team to the next. And it acts as a living representation of the project long after handover. Join us as we discuss ways to break traditional silos between teams and use Autodesk's design and construction solutions to author, prepare, and use models. This interactive workshop presented by our product development team will focus on what's to come in ACC and beyond.

Capitalize on your knowledge of 2D to create 3D models entirely in AutoCAD software. In this class, you will learn how to take your ideas from concept to completion by creating and editing solid objects; creating smooth, free-form shapes using meshing tools; and capitalizing on the power of surface modeling. We'll look at the differences between history- and non-history-based solids and see how models can automatically update when you modify underlying curves or parameters. You will also learn how to control selection and editing with subobject selection filters, as well as glean valuable tips and tricks for navigating and visualizing your AutoCAD 3D models. If you thought 3D in AutoCAD was just too hard, think again.

This is an advanced class for those already familiar with FormIt 360 mobile and web app and the user interface, tools, and basic workflows within the app. This session will focus more on the Windows App to utilize more resources. We will cover the advanced modeling techniques, analysis capabilities, pro features (such as session sharing and material creation), workflows to work with Revit software and Revit software families, and integration of Dynamo modeling scripts into FormIt 360. The class will focus heavily on workflow and getting the most out of a FormIt 360 Pro subscription, so your models are layered with Building Information Modeling (BIM)-related information earlier in your design process. This class will not cover the basics of FormIt 360, so if you’re unfamiliar with how to create model content in FormIt 360, it would be better to take a different course. There are many challenges and conflicting priorities for scaling model-based estimating. This presentation will discuss these challenges and the process Barton Malow Builders implemented to establish a more uniform practice and reliably deliver model-driven quantification for all our projects. We will mention how these methods need to fit with our overall estimating process, and the team adaptation that is needed. We will also cover how other innovations from Autodesk—such as Autodesk Takeoff and Autodesk Construction Cloud capabilities—can influence progress.

Direct modeling is an extremely powerful tool in Fusion 360 software. The use of features that follow natural gestures and movements (i.e., pull, twist, stretch) empowers users to fully immerse in a modeling experience that provides enjoyment, exploration, and a sense of “flow.” Direct modeling can also bypass steps such as setting planes, sketches, and other 3D commands, which could get in the way of modeling workflows. While direct modeling is typically associated with T-Splines via the Sculpt environment, it is possible to also use it in parametric settings. This presentation will illustrate the power of direct modeling in both environments in Fusion 360 software with the use of simple yet effective workflows and design examples.
