How do I Create QR Codes for My Assets?

Katie Murff |24 May, 2016

A quick way to find asset records is to use the asset’s barcode or a QR code.

If the assets already have barcodes, you can associate the existing barcodes with the BIM 360 Ops asset record. Read more about how to do this here.

To create QR codes

First, what is a QR code? QR codes or ‘quick response codes’ are a black and white patterned square. QR codes can contain more information than a barcode.

There are numerous websites that will let you generate QR codes for free. Try searching for “how to create a QR code” or “QR code generators”.

Once you have your codes, you can print them on a piece of paper and tape them on or next to the asset. (See how our Autodesk FM team does it above.) Or you can purchase sticker labels and print the codes on those. For more durable stickers, try searching for “outdoor QR stickers” or “weatherproof QR stickers”.

To attach QR codes

Now that you have your printed QR codes, you can attach them to your assets and associate them with your BIM 360 Ops asset records. This can be as simple as scanning the QR code you want to associate with an asset from the asset record within BIM 360 Ops.

  • Open the asset record within BIM 360 Ops
  • Tap Edit
  • Tap barcode / QR code
  • Then Add from Barcode or QR code
  • Scan it
  • Return to the main record and tap Done
