Spectacular improvements to performance and quality for Revit Cloud Rendering

If you thought the December 2018 update to Revit cloud rendering was a big deal, you were right. But those updates were only some of what the team was working on.  That initial release has been followed by several big incremental improvements that are no less than spectacular.

I’m really excited to share these additional updates to Revit cloud rendering that will make your renders on average 30% faster.

• Single-frame splitting speeds up rendering significantly by breaking a large single image into smaller pieces and rendering each piece separately on a different machine. This allows big images to be optimized across many different rendering machines at the same time.  Post-render, the image is reassembled. Depending on size of image and render quality setting, you’ll see render times two to ten times faster than what you had before.

• Filter-based quality metrics is a new feature that can speed up rendering time by an average of 30%. Specify the desired quality level, and Revit cloud rendering monitors the quality of an in-progress rendering and stops the render when the specified desired quality has been reached.  With filter-based quality metrics, you can avoid costly and useless cycles that don’t contribute to image quality. Depending on the image and subject being rendered, the impact on total render will vary from cutting render time in half to smaller improvements.

Here’s the bonus: taking advantage of those significant average render time savings, we also bumped up some quality settings to allow increased refinements of hard-to-render image details.
