We have some exciting new updates for Civil 3D and InfraWorks that make workflows easier to manage and the process of designing and digitally modeling infrastructure projects more efficient.
All the updates in these releases have been built based on the feedback and requests we have received from our customers — and we have made some significant changes to make life easier for you.
So what’s available in the Civil 3D 2023.2 and InfraWorks 2023.2 release?
Benefit from Civil 3D 2023 Updates
In Civil 3D, more streamlined modelling and workflow processes provide easier connections between elements.
Corridor Transitions
Previously, it was a a complex and lengthy process to model a transition from one condition to another along a range of stations. Once you completed the transition, you couldn’t use it again. The 2023.2 update changes all that. Now you can effortlessly transition from one condition to another — and you can re-use the transition throughout your project. You can transition any subassembly input parameter; whether you need to create driveways, bus bays, or a daylight slope transition, the workflow is simple and flexible. Using fewer assemblies, regions, and targets in a corridor model results in a simpler corridor that is faster to rebuild.
Pressure Networks
With this update, you can connect a pressure pipe to a gravity structure so they can interact and model piping systems in real-world scenarios. This helps you model accurate forcemains and annotate them with a single label that shows properties for both the gravity structure and the connected pressure pipe.
Finally, you no longer need to lock the placement of appurtenances along a pipe run to an unmoved PI point thanks to editing enhancements made to Fittings and Appurtenances.
Subassembly Composer – Versioning and Code Standardization
The 2023 update simplifies tracking and managing versions of a subassembly, making it easy to see which version is being used in a drawing, and validating it, so you can be confident that you’re working with the most current content.
In Subassembly Composer, the definition of point, link, and shape codes — which was time consuming and prone to typos —has been improved to enhance efficiency for the subassembly creators and ensuring the use of standard codes. Standard codes can be included in a shareable library. Importing a library into a PKT allows you to select the standard codes from a list – and new find/replace functionality allows you to quickly update nonstandard codes.
Performance Enhancements
We cut software loading times significantly and improved performance for every database write operation, including when a change updates multiple items. This means the 2023 release is significantly faster than previous versions! The Civil 3D 2023.2 also provides options to handle drawing Civil 3D object labels more efficiently, which speeds up drawing regeneration and pan and zoom operations.
Geotechnical Modeler Extension
The 2023 Civil 3D features a new data import workflow, so you can import custom CSV files and GINT CSV files. Custom field mapping is straightforward, and you can preview data as you configure the mappings, which you can export from the tool and use on other projects with similar data formats.
With the Dynamic Differential surface tool, you can take existing ground surfaces into account when you build stratum surfaces, which increases detail and realism of the subsurface stratum surfaces to mimic real-world conditions. The tool also considers the provided borehole data and matches the overall depths and elevations.
Property Set and Catchment Support in Project Explorer
Recently we announced that Project Explorer and Grading Optimization are now available to all Civil 3D subscribers (where they had been available to AEC Collection subscribers only). The Project Explorer 2023.2 Update adds even more value, as we added support for catchment objects and included the ability to view, edit, and report on property set data.
Discover InfraWorks 2023 Updates
This release offers simpler connected workflows with previously unavailable functionality, reimagining the bridge design workflow to boost productivity.The most significant benefit is the increased flexibility in using custom components and accommodating more complex pier and abutment layouts in your digital model.
Clipping Planes
A new dynamic clipping plane interaction helps you to visualize and understand structures at the design stage, offering deeper insight into the complex geometry of structures.
Revit Family-Based Custom Parametric Components
This new feature extends the current Inventor-based workflow for adding custom parametric components. Before this update, you could create custom parametric components for use in InfraWorks in Inventor only.
With the 2023 InfraWorks release, you can create Revit family-based components (RFBC) and import any existing libraries of RFBC you wish to reuse. Once you publish the InfraWorks model and open it in Revit, you can further modify RFBC, with holes or notches. This is great news for AEC collection subscribers because Revit is included in the collection.
Enhanced Geometry Control
Enhanced geometry control enables you to create custom piers and abutments with any desired seat geometry and have bearings placed automatically, giving you greater control and ease of use during the design stage.
This much-needed functionality allows bridge models to progress to the detail design stage more quickly, with greater control, while maintaining the ease of use of automatic bearings placement.
