We are delighted to share that Autodesk Data Exchange has expanded its ecosystem with the addition of a Navisworks Connector. This new connector allows for the loading of exchanges generated from various design authoring applications supported by Data Exchange. This addition facilitates the coordination of subsets of your data and enables the aggregation and visualization of these subsets in Navisworks. Here are few examples how data exchange can add value to your current coordination workflow.
How Data Exchange can help your workflows in Navisworks
- Reduce dependency on file-based workflows: Data Exchanges are hosted on ACC, which reduces your dependency on file-based workflows for managing, sharing, and viewing your data. You can leverage ACC platform tools like Viewer, Permission, and Document Management to efficiently manage your design data.
- Standardization of exports: Data Exchanges can help in standardizing how your extract data from your design application, so you aren’t required to export multiple files with different setting for different end use cases. Data Exchange helps you in reading the same export across different applications.
- Track design updates in real time: Get notified when a new exchange is available for loading, so you aren’t missing the latest updates. You can also choose to skip an update if it isn’t required and only receive the updated when you want.
- Filter properties before loading in Navisworks: Load only required property types while loading an exchange in Navisworks, so you don’t have to navigate through all the element properties to find desired information.
Here is a quick demo on how you can integrate Data Exchange in your existing Navisworks workflows.
Design coordination and review using Data Exchange for Navisworks
Autodesk Data Exchange now supports loading data from a wide variety of applications such as Revit, Tekla, Rhino, Inventor, SolidWorks, Civil3D, AutoCAD, and IFC (in private beta!). This helps you in loading subsets of data from multiple design files on a single platform for comprehensive design review and coordination.
Take advantage of features in Navisworks such as clash detection, quantification, and 4D simulation to review design and conflicts. Moreover, the update feature in Data Exchange can assist you in determining whether these conflicts have been addressed in subsequent model revisions, keeping the coordination reports in sync with the latest designs.
The Data Exchange connector loads properties enabling the creation of search sets and visibility profilers based on these attributes.
The Navisworks connector retains the model hierarchy, assisting users in developing 4D simulations and easily navigating the model through the selection tree.

We encourage you to join our early access program for the Navisworks Connector through the Autodesk App Store. Early access versions of Revit 2024, Dynamo, Grasshopper, Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Civil3D and Tekla. Connectors are also available for download, along with our other publicly released connectors for Revit 2023 and Rhino 7. Please note that access to Autodesk Docs is required as exchanges are currently stored and managed through this hosting provider.
We highly value your feedback and invite you to share it directly via our early access program forum. Your input plays a crucial role in shaping the development of future connectors and enhancing our app interoperability and data sharing among teams.
