Before Autodesk and Esri joined forces to combine the power of BIM & GIS, civil engineering and GIS teams had disjointed workflows and extremely challenging to utilize GIS data to inform decisions in the design process. This impacted decision-making and collaboration among project stakeholders. The process of data conversion and synchronization between separate BIM and GIS systems was costly, time-consuming, and often led to data redundancy and conversion errors.
Since the alliance in 2017, the industry has made tremendous strides in how AEC professionals design and make civil infrastructure around the world. Enabling a more streamlined flow of BIM and GIS data has led to better-informed decisions and increased efficiency throughout the project life cycle, from planning and design to the construction, maintenance, and operation of infrastructure assets.
For the past seven years since that alliance, Autodesk has represented the AEC industry at the Esri User Conference, an annual event that attracts over 18,000 GIS professionals who descend on the San Diego Convention Center, taking the lead in driving transformative workflows between BIM design and GIS professionals. Autodesk’s presence as a Gold Sponsor at the event reinforces the value of the convergence of design information and location intelligence to advance the digital transformation of the industry.
This year, Autodesk reinforces its commitment with a strong showing of our executives at the event. Autodesk CEO, Andrew Anagnost, and EVP for AEC Solutions, Amy Bunszel, will be on hand to meet with Esri executives, press and analysts, and customers.
At the event hall, Autodesk will offer informative technical sessions, theater presentations, customer case studies, a team of technical experts, customer presentations, and more. We will also be participating jointly with Esri in the Road & Highway and Water Utility Special Interest Group sessions where we’ll engage in deeper discussions on the impacts of integrating design and GIS systems, data, and workflows.

These are just some of Autodesk’s activities at the conference that offer participants the chance to learn more about how the combined power of BIM and GIS help teams with their project workflows design and make the infrastructure for the future. Don’t miss the entire BIM & GIS Integrations theater schedule.
If you are a GIS or civil design or engineering professional working on AEC projects who will be at the Esri UC, we encourage you to come by the Autodesk booth to meet with experts and talk through your real-world infrastructure and utility project use cases. The Autodesk team will offer an up-close-and-personal user experience on how BIM & GIS combined can bring new insights to the understanding of your water, transportation, or other infrastructure projects.
