Good News, Field Teams: You Can Now Execute Rich Model Functionality on Mobile

Autodesk’s newest product release enhances our model viewing capabilities Autodesk Docs and BIM Collaborate

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: successful projects require close collaboration between those in the office and the field. In order to make timely decisions and reduce rework, these teams must have access to the same information no matter where they work.

For quite some time now, we here at Autodesk have been striving to ensure field and office teams can collaborate seamlessly and stay productive.

In May, we released new model viewing capabilities on both web and mobile so that stakeholders can stay connected across all stages of the construction project. This release included extended access to the PlanGrid Build app for paid and trial users of Autodesk Docs and BIM Collaborate.

While this allowed field teams to retrieve the data they needed at the jobsite, we knew that Autodesk Docs and BIM Collaborate users also rely on a wider array of file types—including DWG and 2D RVTs. While users were able to access the file types, they weren't able to access the information contained in them.

Introducing mobile-friendly and rich model functionality on 2D and 3D design file types

Autodesk’s newest product release enhances our model viewing capabilities. Field teams can now perform model functionality on 2D and 3D files on mobile, so Autodesk Docs and BIM Collaborate users can have a consistent navigational and interaction experience in the field.

This capability empowers users to execute navigation, interaction, and data functionalities on their model file types. This means they can gain better access to project information and be more productive in the field, ultimately getting more things done faster.

What can you do with model-based workflows?

This release opens up new benefits and capabilities for field teams, including:

Navigation - The team can extract more value out of rich model data, thanks to several model viewing capabilities. They can use Joystick, Gyroscope, focus, and PlaceMe to navigate within their 2D and 3D models, ensuring they stay informed on the latest model changes.

Interaction - Having access to mobile-friendly and rich model functionality gives field teams more context on where each trade fits within the project. Users can visualize where different components need to be installed and where they’re located, so they can calculate accurate measurements and avoid potential clashes.

Data - Field teams can use Model Browser, Views, Properties, and more to extract rich model data. This allows them to be more granular with their work, drill down on the right info, and ensure they are addressing all details in their 2D and 3D models.

With the right information at their fingertips, team members in the field can make sure important project information will never slip through the cracks.

Do more with your model data

Having access to data is important, but teams will get more value out of that info if they can visualize, interact, and analyze rich model data no matter where they are or at which stage of the project they’re in.

With this update, Autodesk Build, Autodesk Docs, and BIM Collaborate users can go beyond viewing model data; this release empowers them to do more with the information they have, so they’re able to move projects forward with ease and confidence.
