We’re excited to share that Autodesk now offers an option for Australian customers to store their project data locally in Australia. This new regional storage option joins our existing global locations, providing more choices for where to store your data.
This addition highlights our dedication to serving customers in Australia by giving them greater control over their data, which can help enhance project performance. By offering a local storage option for Autodesk Construction Cloud services, we meet the data residency preferences of our customers more effectively.
In a recent webinar, our APAC Industry Strategy Managers for ACC, Sumit Oberoi, and Brett Casson from AEC, discussed this new Australian data storage option. They addressed several important questions from attendees during the Q&A session:
Q1: Will Autodesk be pursuing certification to store Defence/AusGov Protected information?
Yes, we are looking at all security assessments, including the Infosec Registered Assessors Program (IRAP). But we don’t have a timeline for exactly when that will happen. We want to make sure that the security assessments we are investing in addresses our customer needs and the market needs.
Q2: Is the migration to the Australia cloud transparent to customers? Will there be outages involved and what would be the process for setting up access control for partners, contractors, other stakeholders?
This is an additional storage location separate from the US and EU options, so it will have no impact on any projects or hubs that are currently running. In order to satisfy certain regulations, an account on the new data storage location will act as an entirely new one which requires setup at the beginning.
Q3: How can we switch our hub currently in North America to Australia?
You can operate on both hubs simultaneously or phase one out depending on your circumstances. For active projects, consider the transition of data carefully, and also the projects that you will be collaborating on. More details are available in this FAQ.
Q4: Can existing projects set up on the US server be moved to the Australia server without having to manually set up the project folder again?
As mentioned in Q2, users can run two hubs in parallel, and therefore can also run two projects parallel. There are options that can recreate these structures without having to manually set up the project folder again. Find out more about the ART tool and sign up to ART here. Please consider all of the implications and the data strategy such as Project Information Model/Asset Information Model if following an ISO 19650 approach.
Q5: Are all ACC documents backed up locally or replicated to an overseas site?
Yes, if the project is started in Australia, the data will be backed up in Australia too.
