This week is Infrastructure Week, and we're embarking on our Virtual Travel Series! Here's a preview of the stops we'll make along our tour of innovative projects taking US transportation into the future.
Travel, like most things in 2020, looks very different than it has in years past. International trips have been replaced with road trips, and many summer vacations turned into staycations across the country this year. Despite these changes, or perhaps because of them, transportation infrastructure projects in the US are still critically important and serve as major drivers of the country's economic growth. With much of the nation's existing transportation infrastructure having been built decades ago, there are countless numbers of much-needed improvement projects currently underway or planned for the future.
As construction professionals get back to work, there's been a flurry of activity in the transportation space, with money flowing into projects across the country. In fact, just last month, the United States Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration announced it would provide $400 million in federal funding for transit infrastructure projects in Arizona, Indiana, Missouri, and New Jersey. And on Construction Dive's roundup of the most anticipated major projects of 2020, transportation as an industry dominated the list. That's why, for Infrastructure Week, we're celebrating incredible transportation projects across the country, and the innovative professionals behind them in our Virtual Travel Series.
The nationally celebrated Infrastructure Week, hosted by the nonprofit United for Infrastructure, is an annual event series with the mission of uniting the business community, labor unions, trade associations, think tanks, and elected officials to educate policymakers and the American public on the importance of infrastructure to the nation's economy, workers, and communities.
This year's event, taking place September 14-21, 2020, will focus on a theme of how America can rebuild better and showcase innovative projects to champion the country's infrastructure.
For this year's event, we're launching a Virtual Travel Series. We'll be crisscrossing the country to meet the builders and innovators behind some of the most exciting transportation projects in the US their hardworking teams.
An infrastructure project is by no means an individual effort. These jobs involve numerous stakeholders, including general contractors, specialty contractors, government officials, and even technology partners. In our series, we'll be highlighting a large variety of players working on transportation jobs, from the project engineers on the ground to the executives building the next generation of industry-specific technology.
From railways to roads and bridges, we'll be making seven stops over the week, exploring various transportation infrastructure projects and speaking with some of the most innovative leaders in the industry.
