At Autodesk University, we announced Autodesk Build - a project management, cost control, and field collaboration solution - to better connect the office to the field and help the construction industry overcome potential challenges that impact the bottom line. Autodesk Build unites the project management and field collaboration features from both BIM 360 and PlanGrid, while also delivering new functionality to address key workflow challenges. With a single platform, information flows seamlessly to connect workflows and project teams from design to operations. 

We surveyed a handful of our customers participating in the Autodesk Build preview to find out what they’re most excited about. The responses ranged from improved accountability to project status - but the theme of connectivity remained consistent across all responses. With Autodesk Build, data is connected and moved across project teams on a single platform to create a seamless and collaborative experience that positively impacts project outcomes. 

1. Stakeholder Accountability 

Keeping teams accountable and projects on track is vital to any project, as poor team coordination and tracking can lead to schedule delays and added costs. 

One of the ways that Autodesk Build helps to support accountability is through centralized meeting minutes -- ensuring that each stakeholder has visibility into clearly organized and documented meeting records to keep projects moving forward.

“With the ability to link and assign attendees to meeting items with due dates, we can keep track of information in real-time instead of circulating a word document 24 to 48 hours later,” says Kaitlin Frank, Superintendent at Dome Construction. “Having all of the historical project data in one location creates transparency across project teams and minimizes the risk of miscommunication.”

2. Connected Workflows

With projects becoming more complex with tighter schedules and budgets, broken processes and disjointed technologies are no longer an option. Every construction project team needs access to the right tools to support key workflows and better connect project stakeholders to the right information at the right time to avoid miscommunication and inefficiencies that can lead to costly rework and schedule delays. 

Autodesk Build supports connected workflows such as allowing teams to seamlessly manage and link RFIs to other tasks, escalate Issues to RFIs, and RFIs to Potential Change Orders to streamline workflows and reduce the risk of data loss. Linking the RFI process resolves questions around drawings, specs, or other construction documents quickly and reduces multiple conversations that can take several weeks to resolve. 

“I'm excited about being able to effortlessly tag a snippet from a drawing onto an RFI and immediately assign responsibilities and track how the project team interacts with a particular issue or RFI,” says Amy Kozlowski, Project Manager at Herrero Builders. “The ability to track an issue’s progression in real-time helps us manage any roadblocks immediately.” 

3. Increased Transparency  

A lack of transparency on the jobsite can lead to miscommunication, causing rework, high levels of waste, schedule delays, and added costs. Making information readily accessible to project stakeholders can lead to more informed decision making, increasing efficiency and project control.
