Estimators then enter each type of material, its description, measurement, required quantity, and price into a spreadsheet or better yet, an estimating solution. 

For example, when entering the required amount of concrete for the project, the estimator may input the following information in the construction takeoff: 

  • Description: 6" concrete slab on third floor

  • UNIT: Sq. ft.
