In construction, there is an extraordinary amount of data being collected every day starting early with design and extending all the way to handover. Teams can end up feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of data and determining how they can actually start measuring success.
Oftentimes, teams opt to track KPIs that work for their business, but they are not always clear, consistent, or pertinent to what provides value. Meanwhile, teams are struggling to find the right information. As a result, critical and time sensitive decisions are being made without complete data. These decisions can significantly impact whether a project thrives or fails, or if a business hits or falls short of its revenue targets.
At Autodesk, our product team set out to improve how KPIs are tracked and measured. They interviewed over 40 general contractors to determine what KPIs would provide them with the most value. Today, we have turned this feedback into out of the box starter KPI templates accessible for all our customers.

The KPI Power BI Templates are dashboards that provide teams with insights into which KPIs they should be measuring and iterating on. Designed with critical outcomes of construction teams in mind -- including schedule, construction quality, and cost -- these templates have views at both project and account levels.
The 10 templates we have available now are:
The templates are downloadable via the Power BI Template Gallery within the Data Connector tool in Autodesk Construction Cloud. However, you can also download these templates.
(hint: for the most updated versions always default to using the template gallery).
There are lots of reasons why these templates are valuable for construction teams, but we think Heather Soderquist from Jacobsen Construction says it perfectly; “The KPI dashboard templates allows us to customize reports for our needs, but sometimes, knowing where to start is difficult. These KPIs give us a good, solid starting point with many great ideas from which we can build.”
These templates not only serve as a starting point to measuring KPIs, but they are also a benchmark that industry professionals can use to understand how their peers are evaluating their business.
When teams start using their data to inform their decisions, the quality of those decisions improves. And when decisions improve, project success is more measurable and achievable.
