10X speed improvements with new Water Quality Solver in InfoWorks WS Pro 2025.3

2 min read

InfoWorks WS Pro 2025.3 is here, bringing with it a new water quality solver option for improved speed and accuracy and improvements to baseline objects. Our teams were able to compare the new water quality solver with a test model and were able to get equivalent results in the new solver with a much larger timestep, decreasing total run time by 10X! We’re especially happy when we can create efficiency improvements like these that make our customers’ work easier and faster.

This post will walk through everything new for water distribution modeling in InfoWorks WS Pro 2025.3 and how you can take advantage of the latest features.

New water quality solver option improves speed and accuracy

Simulating for water quality throughout your water distribution network is one of the reasons you use powerful tools like InfoWorks WS Pro. Having this data and knowledge available can help you make more informed decisions throughout your planning and management of clean water systems. With the new solver methodology in the latest release, you can now make those informed decisions faster and with higher accuracy.

The new default simulation option for InfoWorks WS Pro water quality solver is now Topological Node Ordering, which improves simulations by calculating the transfer of solutes sequentially, keeping in line with the direction of the flow of water throughout the network. By taking this approach in the Lagrangian solver, it enables the tool to consider multiple links through each timestep, making the water quality results more accurate, even when the timesteps are extended. This two-fold improvement means that you can speed up your simulations by using longer timesteps and achieve higher accuracy when doing so.

Baseline object now supports merge version control

InfoWorks WS Pro 2025.3 also brings with it incremental improvements to the Baseline objects feature. By utilizing the commit approach with version control when using the database setting to use merge version control, the need to check in and out is removed, simplifying your workflow.

In version 2025.2, we improved the Baseline interface to simplify configuration and management of live models as well. Finally, you can see all objects in a single table with easy copy/paste exchange with Excel. Each field is also interactive based on context, with new options too zoom to the object in the GeoPlan, or even populate the idea by selecting in the map.

Data exchange improvements

Building off improvements of 2025.2, InfoWorks now supports several new workflows that allow teams to build up automation and gain efficiency. Teams can now push results to a binary format for third-party data exchange, and Demand Area Analysis can also be managed and updated through scripting with connection to live data. A growing number of organizations are leveraging scripting to streamline workflows and maintain reliable models like never before.

Both of these improvements, the new water quality solver and baseline objects version control, bring increased efficiency to your workflows, but that’s not all. There were several other feature updates in InfoWorks WS Pro 2025.3 and 2025.2 that we didn’t cover in this post.
