Autodesk has launched free viewers for InfoWorks ICM and InfoWorks WS Pro, making hydraulic models and model results more accessible to wider team members. These new viewers provide a new way to visualize models and enable further collaboration between teams, for non-modelers and modelers alike who may need to view InfoWorks models to understand the results of hydraulic analyses. These two applications are completely free, enabling you to get more functionality out of your existing InfoWorks ICM and InfoWorks WS Pro modeling workflows.
In this post, we’ll walk through all the new capabilities we’re making available, completely for free, through these new viewers.
What do InfoWorks ICM and InfoWorks WS Pro Viewers enable me to do?
Below, we’ve detailed everything you can do and can’t do inside of the latest InfoWorks and InfoWorks ICM viewers.
The new InfoWorks viewers allow you to:
- Open and view model network data, logs, and results
- Create and update
- Database or transportable databases
- Themes
- SQL Queries
- Selection sets
- Workspaces
- Layer Lists
- Label Lists
- Custom Graphs
- Copy any data between databases/transportable databases
- Load background mapping and GIS layer data
- Create new views of results
The InfoWorks viewers will not allow you to:
- Create new simulations
- Re-run simulations (on-premises or cloud)
- Re-mesh
- Edit model attributes
Where can I download the InfoWorks ICM and InfoWorks WS Pro viewers?
These applications join other Autodesk viewer apps on the Autodesk Viewers page. Just look for the InfoWorks ICM and InfoWorks WS Pro logos or filter results by product, and you’ll be directed to the right download page. Or, visit these links:

Once the new version is downloaded and installed, a software shortcut will be added to your computer. Once you launch the app, simply sign in with your Autodesk ID (or create an ID).
What model versions do the Viewer apps support?
Viewers of the software will keep the equivalent version of InfoWorks ICM or InfoWorks WS Pro, respectively, based on the time of download. Backwards compatibility and engine results will have the same functionality as the applicable paid license of the equivalent product. We will not add viewer capabilities to previous versions of the software, but as noted, some database versions will be backward compatible. What are some use cases for the Viewers?
There are many use cases where you might want to take advantage of a free viewer license. For example:
- Internal quality control: An internal expert reviewer for a large modeling team wants to ensure projects are being completed to a high standard.
- Connected workflows: Non-modelers may need specific results from the model as inputs to their own workflows.
- Third-party review: A reviewing agency may not need the full product, but they want to understand how the model was created and review the results for a specific project.
