The latest release of InfoWorks WS Pro can be summed up by quoting faux-NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby: “I wanna go fast!”
The Autodesk InfoWorks WS Pro product and development team have been shaking and baking over the last few months by making our already fast cloud simulations even faster in InfoWorks WS Pro2025.4.
While we’ve built out and delivered a comprehensive suite of powerful hydraulic modeling tools here at Autodesk, we’re always looking for ways to push the bounds of already good innovations like cloud computing for hydraulic analysis. As part of this effort, our teams have completely changed the way multi-run analyses are orchestrated in the cloud to increased their speed by up to 10X.
Significantly faster cloud analysis in InfoWorks WS Pro
Achieving 10X speed improvements for hydraulic simulations is no easy feat, and this achievement was the result of a great partnership with our cloud services team. Now, while you might hear “speed improvements” and think, “Oh neat, I’ll save a few minutes” – I’d like you to start thinking bigger. In most of the scenarios we tested, we saw simulation times shrink from hours down to minutes. Here are a couple fun examples.
Criticality example
One of our customers used to wait to run criticality analyses overnight on a 64-core server, which required several hours of maxing out the machine. Our previous cloud computing upgrade was able to bring their analysis down to 3 hours, saving a significant amount of time over local compute. However, with this new release, this same analysis took just 20 minutes to complete.
Fire flow example
A customer’s fire flow model went from ~2 hours on desktop to ~6 min in the cloud. Compared to desktop simulation, this is a 20X speed improvement!
When it comes to hydraulic modeling, it’s not always about reinventing the wheel. Sometimes it’s just about making that wheel faster, more robust, and more efficient. That’s part of the core innovative spirit we’ve embraced here on the Autodesk Water Infrastructure team.
As Ricky Bobby noted in his trademark phrase, “If you ain’t first, you’re last.” With our new faster cloud simulations, you’re certainly going to be seeing the checkered flag much faster with your hydraulic simulation results.
