Templates and family library missing in Revit or Revit LT

Issue:

After installing, updating or reinstalling Revit or Revit LT, templates or family libraries appear to be missing and cannot be loaded into the project. Country-specific libraries are also missing.

Revit 2021 and Newer versions

  • After Installation:

To load family content, use one of the following options:

Load Family button
Note: If extraction of downloaded files fails, Run the Extraction as Admin (Right-click, Run as Admin).
 
  • Before Installation:

 

To include the family content with the installation, set up deployment or custom standalone installation, specify the desired Content, and download/install Revit with the customized installer.

Note: This option also allows you to specify what build to install (2021.1 and later versions).

 

Revit 2020 and Older
 

Templates and family content can be configured during the Revit installation. If this content was not installed as expected, go through the steps that follow to download the content and then configure Revit to use the content:

  1. Download the Content: Download and extract the content using the links in the article: How to download Revit Content
  2. Update Revit Options: If family content (or project templates) still does not exist in Revit, see the following article for information on updating Revit to show the content: Revit family content and template options.
