This was a quick project to practice using Fusion 360 to model and CNC a bottle / can opener.
My process involved sketching the 2D shape profile to find a design a liked. I had already paper sketched some ideas and it was rather easy to transfer the design into Fusion.
Once I had a design I liked I was ready to create a physical prototype. I was concerned with the feel and the angles when the opener was hooked onto a bottle. To create the prototype, I exported the sketch profile as a DXF and then imported it into Illustrator. That allowed me to "print" the design on an Epilog laser. The print driver allows vector cutting and raster burning. I specified the sketch lines to be vectors and then had the laser cut some 3/8 plywood.
After playing around with the wooden prototype I adjusted the design to have a larger handle and higher angle. This gave better ergonomics for the leverage and the comfort of the handle.
Now that I was satisfied with the design I moved on to the Fusion CAM environment. There I created two setups and the operations for milling the top and bottom sides. Additionally, I needed to model and create a set of soft jaws to hold the part for the second setup. That wasn't too difficult as the part is rather simple.
To add some additional character to finish of the part, I decided to add a surface finish. This was done using a 1/8" ball end and a radial operation. I selected an origin near the head of the opener and specified 360' rotation with 2' steps. This operation also required that I left material on the surface so I went back to the previous face operation and specified to leave 0.02" of material.
I'm fairly happy with the results. But I do think it requires more tests opening frosty bottles ;)
Cheers!
