Issue:

When generating a new item in Vault, it gets a number of an item that has been deleted instead of the next sequential number.
The numbering scheme fills the existing gap in this way.

Example:

Existing Item numbers:
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7

New Item number:
4 (instead of 8)

Causes:

With Vault 2020, the functionality to "Allow numbering reuse" was introduced for items in Vault. By default, this is activated when creating a new scheme or using one of the default schemes.

Solution:

Disable the "Allow numbering reuse" option in the numbering scheme that is used.

Example:

Afterwards, new items always get the next highest number even if gaps in the scheme (through renaming or deletion) exist.
