Slowness while working on the model due to background calculations in Revit

Issue:

Users reported that during Color Fill or Mechanical System calculations, Revit may freeze, stop responding, and block certain operations like save, or synchronize.Volume calculations still occur despite the "None" setting for "Calculations" in Piping System properties.

Causes:

  • For complex and large models, Color Fill or Mechanical System calculations can be time-consuming and require much hardware resources.
  • Revit freezes due to background processes.

Solution:

Try one of the following:

Disable Color Fill calculations for Rooms

To turn off the color fill calculations for a particular view:

  1. Go to the view where the slowdown was observed.
  2. Click View tabGraphics panel (Visibility/Graphics), or type the keyboard shortcut VG.
  3. Find Rooms from the Model Categories Visibility list.
  4. Expand the list.
  5. Deselect Color Fill.
  6. Click OK.

Duct & Piping System calculations

  1. If you need to turn off the MEP system calculation, go to the Project Browser.
  2. Expand Families.
  3. Find Duct Systems and expand this list.
  4. Double-click on the first System.
  5. In the Type Properties dialog box, go to Mechanical Parameters and change Calculations from "All" to "Performance".
Note: The "Performance" setting will reduce more calculations than the "None" option.
  1. Click OK.
  2. Repeat steps 4-6 for the rest of the Duct System and Piping Systems.
