Issue:

Users reported that while working on AutoCAD Products, the cursor movements are slow on particular files.
  • The program lags and freezes with every action.
  • The behavior may be reproducible for a specific machine only.
  • The cursor might only lag when a command is active.

Solution:

Try one or more of the following suggestions to increase the performance:

General suggestions

System variables

  • Set CACHEMAXFILES to 0, restart the product and set it up to 256 again.
  • Set UCSDETECT to to turn off the UCS detection.
  • Set SELECTIONPREVIEW to 0.
  • Set STATUSBARAUTOWRAP to 0
  • Set DYNMODE to 0.
  • Set QTEXTMODE to 1, then use REGEN to regenerate the view.
  • Set BLOCKMRUMODE to 0.

Other solutions

  • Change visual style from 2D Wireframe to a different one.
  • Unselect 'Enable Dimension Input When Needed' in the 'Dynamic Input' tab in the OSNAP command.
  • Turn off Object Snap and use it only within command process by Shift + Right-Click to choose Osnap for the specific task.
  • Use EXPORTTOAUTOCAD on Xref drawings
  • Fonts and Text Styles:
    • For True Type fonts, only use Arial or Calibri.
    • Do not use bold or italics with SHX fonts.
    • Reduce the number of text styles to the minimum needed.
  • Drawing Content Placement:
    • Make sure that the drawing is not far from the origin point (0,0).
    • In case of drawings with high coordinates:
      1. Move the content close to point 0.0.
      2. Then attach it as a referenced-drawing (using Xrefs) to a general container-drawing (see About Attaching and Detaching Referenced Drawings).
  • Limit the size of the attached drawing (See To Clip an Xref).
  • Repair the drawing (See: Optimizing the AutoCAD drawing file: Purge, Audit & Recover).
  • Check for OLE objects and either isolate them or place them on a thawed layer, using one of the following methods:

Isolate objects:

    1. Open the drawing in AutoCAD.
    2. Use "Quick Select" to find all OLE objects.
    3. To isolate: Right-click and choose "Isolate Objects".

Place the OLE objects on a thawed layer:

    1. Create a new layer or ensure the target layer is thawed.
    2. Move the selected OLE objects to this layer.
