"Unable to open file... Error = 2" when selecting a custom hatch pattern in AutoCAD

When selecting a custom PAT file in AutoCAD from the Custom list, it does not work and an error similar to the following may be displayed.

Unable to open file:
<path>.pat, Error = 2

The pattern name includes a "(" character.

Do the following:

Remove the "(" character from the PAT file name.
Open the PAT file in Notepad and remove the "(" character from the pattern name.
