Command delay in AutoCAD and AutoCAD for Mac 2020 or later

Issue:

While working in AutoCAD or AutoCAD for Mac 2020 or later, a few seconds delay occurs after terminating a command. This may occur consistently or only after inserting a block. On macOS, the spinning wheel/spinning ball/beach ball is shown.

Causes:

Updates have not been installed.
Corrupted drawing.
The installation has become corrupted due to an operating system update.

Solution:

Do the following in order, testing the performance after each step:

Install all available AutoCAD updates and hotfixes: Install Updates, Add-ons, and Enhancements. Hotfixes may be found at the following links:
- AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT
  - AutoCAD 2020 and 2021
  - AutoCAD LT 2020 and 2021
- AutoCAD for Mac and AutoCAD LT for Mac
Open any drawing and change the value of the system variable BLOCKMRULIST to 0 (zero). Then, close and relaunch AutoCAD.
Change the display setting from the Blocks palette to List instead of Symbol. Then, close and relaunch AutoCAD.
Use the CLASSICINSERT command instead of the Blocks palette (i.e., INSERT command).
Repair the template (DWT file) and repair the drawing (DWG file) (see How to repair corrupt AutoCAD files).
Reset AutoCAD (see How to reset AutoCAD to defaults).
If the operating system has been updated, check to ensure that the version of AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT is supported on the new platform. If not, either upgrade to a newer version of AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT, or downgrade the operating system.
