Issue:

When trying to quit or exit Maya, the program freezes. The only way to shut down the program is by force quitting, or through the Task Manager.

Causes:

There are several potential causes for this behavior:

  1. If the Windows user account has been restricted from using the Windows Command prompt (cmd.exe) as it is invoked when Maya is quit.
  2. Unsupported Graphics Card or Operating system.
  3. Corrupted Maya preferences.

Solution:

Restricted use of the Command prompt:

Remove all restrictions regarding the Maya Command prompt (cmd.exe). All user accounts should be able to access to the Command prompt when using Maya.

NOTE: Multiple features within Maya require access to the Command prompt. Restriction causes poor performance.

Unsupported Graphics Card or Operating System:

Requirements vary based on the version of Maya being used. Use the following links to determine if the system meets the requirements:

Corrupted Maya Preferences:

Reset the Maya Preferences to default by following this guide: How to reset the Maya Preferences to Default
