Issue:

In Revit, how can a model be upgraded to a newer version?

Solution:

Automatic Upgrade

When a Revit model is opened in a newer version, Revit will automatically upgrade the model.

Recommendations for upgrading

  • Make sure Revit has the latest updates applied.

  • Use the Audit checkbox when upgrading models.

  • In many cases, it is possible to directly upgrade from multiple prior versions to the current version. However, if there are issues in upgrading directly from an older version (for example 2020 to 2022), upgrade project files one version at a time (for example 2020 to 2021 and then 2021 to 2022).

    • If the upgrade does not go past a particular version, see the 'Upgrade Information' section below for information on changes with each version that could impact upgrades.
