Create custom shaders in Alias

00:03

I finished replacing the original shader on this

00:06

model with ones from the Shader Library.

00:10

I'm going to go to the Shader Lister and perform a

00:13

Delete Unused Shaders to get rid of the original shaders.

00:19

Next, I'd like to create a custom carbon fiber texture.

00:24

I'll duplicate the default shader to have a starting point,

00:27

and then I'll middle mouse button drag and drop to

00:29

replace everything that currently has the dark color.

00:34

Next, I'll open the Texture Editor for the Diffuse Color,

00:37

and since I don't have an image, I'll create a Procedural texture.

00:42

Procedural textures are programmatically generated from within Alias.

00:48

I'll change it to a Triplaner projection so it's projected from three directions,

00:53

and for a texture Type, I'm going to use Cloth.

00:58

On the left side of the editor, you'll find the settings for the Cloth texture.

01:03

I'll edit these colors to be more like carbon fiber.

01:08

If we zoom in on this now, we can see how the Triplaner projection is applied.

01:15

And, we can use the Move Texture tool to modify the size of the projection.

01:27

I'll change the Specular Color to make it a bit more reflective.

01:32

And, I'll rename it

01:33

to carbon fiber,

01:35

because I'd like to reuse it later.

01:40

I'm going to add a new library and specify a folder

01:43

I previously created on disk as the new library location.

01:48

Now, I can drag and drop the custom shader from the Shader Lister to the

01:51

Shader Library and start building up a library

01:53

of my favorite shader for other projects.
