Once you have configured and enabled directory sync, you should now be seeing those selected groups and users added to the user management tabs.
00:12
Looking at an example here, you can see the synced groups is marked with a sync icon and the users contained within present with a linked icon,
00:21
to indicate they are synced users and they cannot be edited.
00:25
Let's take a look here at the basics of directory sync with some example behaviors.
00:31
In this first instance, we are going to assign some seats to an engineering group.
00:35
You can see here, we have sufficient seats in order to assign to this group,
00:39
and when we look at the individual users, we can see that they have been assigned one seat through the synced group.
00:47
For these users, we can also, if you like, assign an individual seat.
00:51
Note that while we cannot edit the user, we can do individual assignments.
00:58
Let's take a look now at adding a new user to our user directory.
01:02
Using an Azure example, we create a new user and we will add them to the engineering group that is set up to sync with our team already.
01:21
The sync process occurs every 40 minutes of Azure.
01:24
We will see once the sync kicks in our new user is added to the synced group in account.
01:31
We also see the new user automatically is assigned a seat.
01:42
Next, we are going to create a new group in the user directory with a new user.
01:47
In this case, we are going to add the new drafting group to the connection permissions.
01:53
Our new user will be configured to use SSO and will be synced to the team as part of this new group.
01:60
Here, we have created our new user, and from their active directory menu, we are going to select groups and create a new group.
02:08
Here, the new group type is Security, I am entering the group name Drafting,
02:12
the group description is the Drafting Group, and I am going to add that new user in as the first member of this group.
02:20
Switching across to the enterprise application, we are going to select our application,
02:27
and once selected, add the drafting group with permissions to this application.
02:33
There it is.
02:41
After the sync time lapses, we see the new group synced and the group and user appear in user management.
02:53
Next, we will take a look at what happens when we remove a user from our synced group.
02:60
In this first example, we will take the user out of engineering group and add them to the drafting group.
03:19
Once this operation is completed and the sync is updated, you can see here the user still appears in the team just with updated group membership.
03:37
If we then now remove this user from the second group, we will see the user is removed altogether from the team.
03:48
When the user tries to sign in, they are now disabled.
03:53
This is as designed.
03:54
The user should now not be associated with the connection and is not able to sign in or have any assignments within the team.
04:02
Just to check, you can see here the user is no longer in their group, and when we go to accounts to try and sign in, the user is no longer recognized.
04:12
So, completely removed from the Autodesk environment.
04:23
What happens though if the user is not removed from a group, it is actually disabled?
04:28
In this case, we can see the user is completely removed from the team and is no longer able to sign in.
04:45
If the administrator though changes their mind, they can now add the user back in Azure,
04:50
and after sync runs, our user is re-enabled and added to the team as part of the group they are assigned to.
