Let’s explore the BOM management interface. We’ll review the different filters available to view the items in your bill of materials, and configure the columns to suit your preferences.
Using different BOM filters will help you reach the most valuable information quickly. Let’s navigate through the BOM management interface and the available filters.

In this video, we'll walk through accessing and navigating the main sections of the BOM interface and how you can filter items in these views.
00:13
Working within the BOM interface is 1 of the most common functions for a non-CAD Upchain user.
00:19
And setting it up to your personal preference can save a lot of time.
00:23
So, let's take a look.
00:25
The BOM management interface allows you to see all of your working parts and components for your project in a variety of different ways.
00:32
The BOM for your project is easily accessible by clicking on the BOM icon from the navigation panel on the left-hand side of the screen.
00:40
From here, we can see that the BOM interface is split into two main sections.
00:44
The navigation tree on the left and the center view.
00:47
The navigation tree gives you a high-level view of items in your project.
00:52
You can then expand the tree structure to see any child sub-assemblies or individual items listed below the chosen parent assembly.
00:60
We can also see at a glance, a status, and icon representing the type of item listed.
01:06
Adjacent to the navigation tree, we have the center view.
01:09
This is where most of the information about an item can be viewed once it is selected from the navigation tree.
01:15
This view configures to show specific column data, which we'll discuss in the next video.
01:21
While being able to see all of this information at a glance is great,
01:25
there are still some additional features that can provide us with even more information about our items.
01:30
If we move back over to the navigation tree, we can see that a filter is the blade at the top.
01:36
This filter allows us to see the latest working version, the latest released version, or all the end items in our BOM.
01:43
By default, the latest working filter is selected.
01:47
This shows you the latest saved version of the items in the BOM and helps you to ensure that you are working with the latest version of each item.
01:56
However, you may on occasion need to access previous versions of an item.
01:60
This can be done by selecting the all filter.
02:03
This filter displays all of the versions and revisions of an item or assembly.
02:07
Here we have the latest revision of this item AD.
02:10
We can now see all of the earlier revisions listed in the tree beneath AD.
02:15
Supposing I wish to find AA, for instance, I can simply click on it and now view the full BOM for this revision AA and its details.
02:24
The latest release filter shows you just that the most recent release version of the end item,
02:31
and it won't show you anything if no end item has been released yet.
02:36
Our center view offers a number of eBOM filters above if you prefer to filter a specific assembly.
02:42
These filters also allow you to find more specific versions of items created at various stages of development.
02:49
This comes in handy when looking for a particular item version that could have been saved at different intervals via your CAD software.
02:57
You might want to find, for example, versions of your items from before a release or even older versions saved prior to updating the parent assembly.
03:07
These filters enable you to quickly narrow down the list of items displayed when needed.
03:12
Now that we understand more about how the BOM interface operates.
03:16
Let's move on to how you can set it up to better suit your particular needs.

Let’s create a brand new view in the BOM interface. Custom views make it easy to see the data that is most relevant to you.

00:04
In this video, we will review how to configure your view of the BOM and your items attributes,
00:10
save it for future use and update existing views,
00:14
your workspace can and should be customized to whatever will best fit your operational needs.
00:19
So let's take a look.
00:21
While being able to filter the items in your BOM view is handy.
00:24
Another way to customize your view is to configure the columns in the center view.
00:29
This is really useful if for example,
00:31
you don't need to see the cost or currency of an item, but perhaps you want to see the material,
00:37
we recommend first taking a look at what has been enabled versus what is not currently enabled
00:43
and then adjusting what displays for you according to your specific needs.
00:47
Once you more or less have the correct columns displaying,
00:50
you can then rearrange them in whichever order you prefer.
00:54
For example, you may wish to see the major and minor revision numbers
00:58
and version number closer to the status of the item on the list.
01:02
This can be done by simply clicking and dragging the columns to their new location.
01:06
Once you have configured a view that works for you.
01:09
You can then save it as a new view template.
01:12
You can do this by clicking on the new view button at the bottom,
01:15
giving it a name and pressing enter.
01:18
This will allow you to access this view configuration at any time when working in this project BOM.
01:24
You can create several views if needed and they will be available to you across all projects.
01:30
You may require a view that succinctly displays all versions
01:34
and revisions of an item such as we have here
01:37
and perhaps you may require another that is more focused on cost and quantities.
01:41
Feel free to pause this video if you like and take the time to set up one or two of your own views.
01:46
If you would like to modify an already created view,
01:50
once you have your modifications made,
01:52
simply select the drop down from any of the columns and hit save table preferences.
01:58
As a tenant admin, you are able to create a view and propagate it to other users in Upchain.
02:04
This means you can create a default view for all Upchain users in your tenant.
02:08
Users can then configure that view further as best suits them and their operational needs.
02:14
Now that we have learned all about items and the BOM interface in Upchain,
02:19
our next step will be to learn more about what we can do with those items.
