With Desktop Connector,
00:04
you can manage your cloud data, like local files, in a
00:08
file explorer window, with changes synced to the Autodesk cloud project.
00:14
Click on the Desktop Connector icon from your machine system tray.
00:19
Verify that Autodesk Docs displays in the Desktop Connector dialog box.
00:25
In the upper left corner,
00:27
click the help and settings icon to expand the menu options.
00:32
Let's review the different options available to
00:35
you to manage your cloud files locally.
00:38
Upload files and references allows you to specify the local data location
00:43
of a file you want to share with a cloud destination.
00:47
Alternatively, you can drag and drop the file or folder to upload.
00:54
Select projects allows you to choose up to 80 projects you
00:58
want to appear in the file explorer or within the Autodesk software.
01:04
Reference explorer
01:05
lets you drag and drop a reference file or
01:08
a data shortcut file into the reference explorer dialog box
01:12
and it shows you which files it's referenced in
01:16
and the number of times it's referenced, as well as if a file is missing.
01:21
The reference explorer cannot be used with linked Revit files.
01:25
The troubleshooting feature will inspect a selected project for any issues.
01:33
Open a file explorer window to view cloud models through the
01:37
Autodesk Docs connector.
01:39
In the left pane, expand
01:41
Autodesk Docs,
01:43
then expand the hub project and project files sub folder to view the files.
01:50
Notice that the only projects available are the projects you have chosen to sync.
01:56
Different icons will display in the status column
01:59
to indicate the file or folder status.
02:02
Let's take a look at a couple of these icons,
02:05
a cloud icon displays in the status column
02:08
if the file is a cloud model and has not been downloaded locally.
02:13
A green check mark means the file has been downloaded.
02:17
If you double click on a Revit
02:19
Cloudworks
02:20
shared file,
02:21
it will be downloaded.
02:22
You will need to go through the proper method of opening the Revit
02:26
Cloudworks
02:27
shared file through the Revit

software.
02:30
If you double click on a file,
02:32
it will open in its respective software. For example, Revit,
02:36
Civil 3D, or Plant 3D, and you can update it. Once saved,
02:41
the changes will be saved back to the cloud.
02:45
A lock icon will display in the status column when the file is open.
02:50
Once the file is closed, the lock icon will no longer display.
02:55
Autodesk Construction Cloud will reflect what is happening with your files,
02:59
similar to what Desktop Connector displays.
03:03
You can verify the changes that were made by
03:05
selecting the Docs product in the upper left corner.
03:09
Navigate to the relevant project files sub folder
03:12
and note that the file, data, and project mirrors what is on the local drive.
03:18
Once the files are saved and the changes are synced to the cloud project,
03:23
the lock icon will disappear
03:25
and the date and time stamp will reflect that changes have been made.

With Desktop Connector, you can manage your cloud data like local files in a File Explorer window, with changes being synced to the Autodesk cloud project.
To use Desktop Connector, click on the Desktop Connector icon from your machine's system tray. Verify that Autodesk Docs displays in the Desktop Connector dialog box, indicating that it is your connector.
In the upper-left corner, you can click the Help & Settings icon to expand the menu options.
The different options available to you to manage your cloud files locally are as follows:
Different icons will be displayed in the Status column to indicate the cloud file's status.
If you double-click on a file, it will open in its respective software (for example, Revit, Civil 3D, or Plant 3D), and you can update it. The changes will be saved to the cloud once the file is saved.
NOTE: Revit cloud workshared models should not be opened from Desktop Connector. Double-clicking on a Revit cloud workshared file will download a copy of the file, and any changes you make to that file will not be updated in the cloud. If you are trying to update the cloud workshared model, you will need to go through the proper method of opening the Revit cloud workshared file through the Revit software.
A lock icon will display in the Status column when the file is opened. Once the file is closed, the lock icon will no longer display.
