Communicate the design intent on civil projects

Helping key stakeholders and the general public clearly understand the project scope can reduce project costs and help you win better work. Storytelling is an essential part of the visualization process, it excites the audience. Develop a process that starts by identifying audiences, the outcome they want to achieve for their visualization and ensure the outcomes are met. In this module, you explore several different options for communicating the design intent to stakeholders. Practice rendering images and creating videos of walkthroughs to better communicate the design. In addition, you learn how to cut plan and profile sheets and better utilize Sheet Set Manager for communicating to contractors how the project should be built.

Using the Sheet Set Manager in Civil 3D

Before you start creating your templates, it is important to understand that you will need a Sheet Set template (.dst) and an overall project drawing template (.dwt). In this module, you will learn how to create a Sheet Set template to be used on multiple projects. You also set up the project template drawing file (title block) that the properties can be modified from project to project. Finally, you will link the two templates together to populate and create common data throughout the project lifecycle.

This module takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. By the end of the module, you should be able to:

  • Create a standard sheet set template
  • Create a standard drawing template
  • Use both templates to connect data

Win better work from your plan and profile sheets

The quality of your plan, profile, and section sheets are more important than a business card when it comes to winning more work. Learn how to make your plan, profile, and cross-section sheets communicate the professional image you want your firm to be known for.

This module takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. By the end of the module, you should be able to:

  • Configure viewports: Learn how to prepare an existing drawing template for use with the plan production tools.
  • Create view frames: Use the “Create View Frames” wizard to quickly create view frames along an alignment.
  • Create plan and profile sheets: Create plan and profile sheets from the view frames you created.
  • Create section sheets: Automatically create sheets from section views.
