We're going to start creating our Room Data Sheets by first adding some parameters to our project.
00:06
So, here I am in our project file. And our first step to creating our Room Data Sheets is to create a series of Shared Parameters.
00:15
And these Shared Parameters are going to be used to store our program and our equipment information.
00:20
And this is the information that's ultimately going to show up in our Room Data Sheets.
00:25
So, to create the Shared Parameters, I'm gonna go up to the Manage tab, and I'm going to click on "Shared Parameters".
00:32
And I'm gonna create a new Shared Parameter file.
00:35
Click on the "Create" button. And then I browse to the folder where I want to keep my Shared Parameter file.
00:42
I'm gonna name this "Room Data Sheets", and then I click "Save".
00:46
So, right now, I'm just gonna create a few Shared Parameters.
00:49
But I want to group them into special category, so it makes it easier to keep track of which parameter belongs where.
00:55
So, I'm gonna create a group by clicking on the "New" button. And I'm going to call this group "Program" and I click "OK".
01:04
And I can see that that parameter group shows up here in the drop-down.
01:08
Now I'm going to create another group and I'm gonna call this "Equipment".
01:16
So, now that I have my two groups, I can create the Shared Parameter and put it inside of that group.
01:22
So, I'm gonna select "Program" as my parameter group and I'm going to create a new parameter.
01:27
Now, I'm gonna call this parameter "Program Area".
01:33
The Discipline will be set as "Common". The Type of Parameter is going to be "Area".
01:39
And I'm gonna click "OK".
01:42
Now I'm gonna change my Parameter Group to Equipment and I'm going to create a new parameter.
01:48
I'm gonna call this one 240 volt, and I will use this to determine whether or not the room requires 240 volt or has 240 volt equipment.
01:58
So, this is going to be Discipline set to Common, and the Type of Parameter is going to be Yes/No.
02:04
And then I click "OK". And I'm gonna go ahead and create one more parameter.
02:09
I'm gonna set this in the Program Group. I'm gonna click on New and we'll call this Program Comments.
02:18
So these will be any kind of comments that we want to add that specific to the building program.
02:22
And I'm gonna set this type of parameter to Text and I click "OK".
02:27
So now I can see under the Program Parameter Group, I have Program Area, Program Comments.
02:33
And then under Equipment, right now, all I have this 240 volts.
02:36
So, that's enough to get us started. I'm gonna Click "OK".
02:40
Now to connect these Shared Parameters to our project, I'm going to go to the Project Parameters icon.
02:48
I click on that and I'm going to add our Shared Parameters as Project Parameters.
02:53
So, I click the Add button and I'm gonna choose the Parameter Type to be Shared Parameter.
02:59
Now I click the select button and this pops open the Shared Parameters dialog.
03:05
So, these are the parameters that I just created. So, I'll choose Program Area first.
03:12
And then I choose the category that I want to apply the parameter to.
03:16
So, we're gonna be applying all of these parameters to the Room category.
03:22
So, I find it here in the list and I'm going to set these as Instance Type Parameters.
03:29
And then I choose where I want a group the parameter under.
03:33
I'm going to set all of these under the other category.
03:35
But you could choose any category you want.
03:38
Then I click "OK". And now I see that Program Area has been added as a Project Parameter.
03:44
Now I'm going to do the same thing for the other Shared Parameters.
03:48
Going to select, under Program, we'll add Program Comments.
03:53
I click "OK". That's set for an Instance Parameter.
03:57
I'm going to group it under Other and then I choose the Room category again.
04:06
And I click "OK". Now for the last one, I'm gonna click again Add, I choose Shared Parameters.
04:13
I'm going to select our 240 volts, click "OK". I'm gonna group this under Other and then I choose the Room category.
04:25
And I click "OK". And lastly, I just click "OK" to add the Shared Parameters to our project.
04:32
So, now if I go to a Floor Plan and I select a Room object,
04:39
I can see my Program Area, Program Comments and our 240 volt parameter grouped in the Other category as I set it up.
04:47
Now it's your turn to give it a try.
04:49
Download the sample Revit file for this course if you haven't done so already.
04:54
And then next I want you to add the following parameters to the Shared Parameter file.
04:58
Add a Program Category, Medical Gasses, Television and Equipment Comments.
05:04
Once you've done that, add the new parameters to the Project Parameters in the sample file.
05:09
You group them in the Other category like we did in the video.
05:12
Make sure you set these as Instance Parameters.
05:15
And then once you've done all that, check a room to make sure that the parameters were added correctly.
05:20
You should see the parameters in the Properties window.
