Create Room Data Sheet - Create Room Tag and Title Block

00:01

What elements do you need to create Room Data Sheets in Revit?

00:04

That's what we're going to cover in this lesson.

00:07

So, there are three elements that are going to comprise our Room Data Sheets in Revit.

00:12

So, we're going to start with an 8.5x11 Title Block.

00:15

Then we're going to have an enlarged Floor Plan for each of our room.

00:19

And then we're going to have a Room Tag that's going to display all of the room parameters.

00:24

So, let's start by taking a look at the Title Block.

00:27

I have a file that I've started, and you can see it's just a Title Block Family, and I've sized it to 8.5x11.

00:36

And let me zoom in. There's a number of labels here that we're going to use to display project information.

00:41

So, this label here, I’m going to click on "Edit" and it's showing the Building Name, the Project Name, and the Project Number.

00:48

And they have a break after each of them, so they're on their own line.

00:53

In the middle here is our Sheet Name, and this is also another label, and this is going to correspond to the Room Number and the Room Name.

01:01

So, when we create the Sheets, we’re going to make sure that they display that information.

01:06

Over on the right-hand side here is another label, and this is showing the Sheet Number.

01:12

So, this is effectively going to be our Page Number.

01:16

And we have a line kind of separating that information.

01:18

Then towards the top, there's some text that just says Room Data Sheet.

01:22

And then over on the other side is another label that's showing this Sheet issue date,

01:28

so we can edit that every time we issue the Room Data Sheets, so we know exactly what date they come from.

01:34

So, I'm going to save this file, and I'm going to call it rds - 8.5x11,

01:44

and I'm going to load it into our project.

01:47

Now that we have our Room Data Sheet Title Block, we're going to go ahead and create a Room Tag specifically for our room information,

01:55

and the Room Tag is what we're going to use on our enlarge floor plans to display all the room parameters that we want in our data sheet.

02:02

So, I have a Room Tag created and this Room Tag was created using the Room Tag Annotation Family template.

02:10

And if I go up here and show the categories, you can see that the category for this family is for a Room Tag.

02:17

So, I'm going to click "OK".

02:19

Now, the second thing to note is that these green cross here indicate the insertion point for the Room Tag.

02:26

And I'm not inserting my Room Tag directly on that insertion point, which typically is going to be the center of the room.

02:33

I have moved it a little bit down from that and a little bit over to the left.

02:37

And the idea is that I will place these tags in the room, but I want them to actually show outside of the room.

02:43

And so, they display correctly on this sheet.

02:46

So, looking at this, I did a little bit of work setting it up.

02:51

The first thing I have is I have a label up top, and I'm using an 8" bold label style.

02:56

If I click on the "Label", you can see that it's displaying the Room Number and the Room Name.

03:03

Now below that, I have a line, and then I have just a regular piece of text that says Room Data.

03:08

And then below that is another label that's showing the Room Area, the Department, and the Level.

03:15

For each of these, I've added a prefix that says Area, Department, and Level just to give it a bit of a heading.

03:21

And then I'm using a brake line after each of them, so they display on their own line.

03:26

Now, after that, I have another line and then a piece of text that says Program Data.

03:32

So, what I'm going to do is create a new label, going to place it here under Program Data.

03:39

And I'm going to create a new parameter.

03:42

I'm going to select a "Shared Parameter", and the parameter that I'm going to select is from our Shared Parameter file.

03:48

So, I'm going to choose the "Program Group", and I'm going to select "Program Area".

03:54

I click "OK", and then I click "OK".

03:57

So now our program area Shared Parameter is associated with our Room Tag.

04:03

I'm going to add that over to our label,

04:06

and I'm going to give it a prefix that says Program Area and I click "OK".

04:15

And I'm going to just drag this out a little bit, I'm going to position it under our heading here.

04:21

Now I'm going to add another label to this and I'm going to click on the "Add Perimeter" button.

04:28

I'm going to choose "Select" and from the Program Group, I'm going to choose our "Program Comments".

04:34

Click "OK" to add that Shared Parameter.

04:38

And so, I'm just going to add this right underneath our Program Area.

04:41

I'll add a prefix called Comments.

04:45

And I want to make sure I add a break under Program Area.

04:49

So, they're all on their same line, their own line.

04:52

So, I can move that out a little bit.

04:57

And next I'm going to go down to Equipment Data, and I'm going to do the same thing.

04:60

I'm going to create a label, going to place it under Equipment Data.

05:04

I'm going to click on "Add Parameter", click "Select", and I'm going to add our 240-volt parameter.

05:13

Click "OK", "OK".

05:15

And now I'm going to add this to the label.

05:18

My prefix will be 240 volt.

05:22

And I click "OK".

05:24

So, let me position this a little better.

05:27

So now when I insert this Room Tag, it's going to display this information that's particular to each of the rooms.

05:33

So, this is how we're going to display our room data on the Room Data Sheets.

05:38

So, I'm going to save this file.

05:47

And I'm going to call it rds - room tag.

05:53

And now I'm going to load it into our project.

05:57

So, we showed a mockup of the Room Data Sheet to the client, and they want to include some additional information on this sheet.

06:03

So they want to include the Project Address and the Project Status.

06:07

So, download the Title Block Family from the course files and edit the family to include this additional project data.

06:14

And once you've done that, download the Room Tag Family from the course files,

06:18

and edit it to include the new parameters that you added in the earlier lesson.

06:23

Once you've done that, load both of the families into the project file.

05:15

05:38

And I'm going to call it rds - room tag.

05:53

05:57

So, we showed a mockup of the Room Data Sheet to the client, and they want to include some additional information on this sheet.

06:03

Now that you learnt the workflow, it's the time to try it yourself.

Before you get started, download the files from the Files drop-down in the toolbar.
