In this exercise, you'll practice how to create a 3+2 drilling operation and a circular pattern.

This is a practice exercise video solution.
00:07
For this practice, we're going to get started with baffle - P E
00:11
We're going to create a drilling operation, and we want to filter and look for a quarter inch drill bit.
00:16
I'll do this in the samples inch library, filtering for hole making, specifically for drill and then select a diameter range.
00:25
In this case, I want to check between .2 and .275.
00:31
We have many different drill bits here, but the one I want is going to be a quarter inch.
00:35
So we'll look for the quarter inch drill bit.
00:38
We use aluminium drilling for our cutting data, and then we'll move on to our geometry.
00:43
We need to set our tool orientation, and I'll do this by selecting the bottom of one of the holes.
00:49
Notice the coordinate system has changed, and now we can make our face selection for the hole that we want to drill.
00:55
If we want to make any adjustments to the drilling operation, we can make changes.
00:59
For example, starting the feet height a bit closer to the top of the hole, I’m going to say ‘okay’ and allow it to create this operation.
01:09
Next, I want to make sure that drill 1 is selected.
01:12
Go to set up and create a new pattern.
01:15
This is going to be a circular pattern, and we're going to have 10 instances.
01:19
We want to select a circular reference as our axis.
01:23
We'll say ‘okay’ and allow it to generate.
01:28
Once we generated the new operation, I'm going to select the entire setup and simulate.
01:34
I'm going to jump past the first adaptive, the scallop and the contour operations.
01:41
And then I want to play through the drilling operations,
01:44
ensuring that I'm drilling all the holes all the way around the part and changing the orientation of the drill bit.
01:52
Once complete, I'm going to go back to a Home view, close the simulation and save the design.
