In this video, we'll create a custom title block.
00:06
After completing this step, you'll be able to create title block notes and use a custom title block.
00:14
In fusion 360, we're going to carry on with our gear reduction housing for production drawing.
00:19
We're going to navigate back to the first drawing sheet.
00:22
I notice that we have an assembly with the parts list and generally when you have a packet of detailed drawings,
00:29
the first drawing sheet will have an isometric view of the part and just some basic information in the title block.
00:36
So what we want to do is we're going to create a new drawing sheet.
00:39
We're going to drag it all the way to the front.
00:42
We're going to add a basic representation or base view of the model.
00:47
We're going to use the home view.
00:49
We're going to make this a 1-1 scale and we're going to say okay.
00:57
We don't want to show everything in this detailed drawing. We're going to hide the housing mount for example.
01:02
We're going to double click on it and we're going to change the tangent edge display,
01:06
because we want to see the tangent edge display on some of these components and then we can close the drawing view properties.
01:13
We also want to make sure that some of the hardware is hidden.
01:16
And notice that inside of here, we want to go down to hardware 1, 2 and 3.
01:22
Now that we have those items hidden. We also want to scroll down and we want to hide the couplers and the damper.
01:32
We have a lot more room on this drawing sheet so we can double click on the view and we can actually make it a little bit larger.
01:38
Let's go to a 2-1 scale and see how it fits.
01:42
Once we're happy with that. Now let's modify the title block.
01:46
There are a couple different things that we can do with title blocks.
01:48
If we simply double click on it, we have access to all the attributes that were previously defined in this title block.
01:55
If we want to modify this, we can select it.
01:58
Then we can right click and we can either create a brand new title block and that will start from scratch or we can edit the title block.
02:06
What we do by double clicking is editing the properties.
02:09
So in this case let's select edit title block.
02:13
It's going to use the antsy title block as its default and the new name by default will just simply add a one to the end.
02:21
I'm going to remove that one and simply put custom at the end.
02:25
Also note that we can start from scratch in here or we can start from a .dwg file.
02:30
In this example, we're only going to be using the existing title block and simply modifying it.
02:36
Once we modify the title block, it's going to show us the title block properties and give us some basic tools,
02:42
such as creation tools for sketch elements, modification tools, and tools to add text and attributes.
02:49
Inside of here, we need to think about the basic information that we might want on a custom title block.
02:55
For example, the revision, the sheet number, maybe the scale, some basic information that might be important.
03:03
For my example, here, I'm only going to have the project.
03:07
So I want to remove everything else, I'm going to use a box to drag and then simply delete what I don't want.
03:14
This is going to take a little while but let's go ahead and grab everything that we don't want, we can get rid of this line.
03:21
And then we need to resize the outside of this box. So I'm going to select project and project.
03:27
Now this is the text and this is the attribute, and I'm going to reposition them.
03:32
So I'm going to move them down to the bottom right hand corner,
03:35
keeping in mind that we might want to ensure that we have enough room for the actual project title,
03:41
this is going to come from the file name, then we can take these lines and we can move the lines around.
03:48
We can also use other sketch tools like trim.
03:51
But it's just easier for us to move and resize these lines, because it's just a simple rectangle, going to make sure that it's horizontal.
04:01
And now that we finished that, I'm going to go ahead and finish the title block.
04:05
Once again, note that it's a little bit oversized here, so we need to make it a little bit bigger.
04:11
And when we hover over this, notice that there are some sketch lines that we didn't get rid of.
04:16
So I'm going to right click, and I'm going to edit the title block.
04:19
So note when we come down here at the bottom, we have this line that already exists.
04:25
I'm going to drag this out. And then I'm going to snap to that endpoint.
04:29
And notice if we have trouble, we can always come back and use things like the trim tool and can trim that end, trim that end,
04:37
right click and say okay, then I'm going to bring this line and I'm going to snap it to that endpoint.
04:43
Then I want to make sure that it's horizontal.
04:47
Then I can move my project text and then I can move the project attribute which automatically comes from the file name.
04:56
Now I can finish the title block and you can see we have enough room there.
04:60
When we zoom in, you can see project is a little bit on the top line, we might want to modify that.
05:07
So select the title block, right click, and we'll add it one more time, and then we'll simply move it down a little bit.
05:15
If it's trying to snap just move it a little bit farther and then finish the title block and now everything looks good.
05:21
Gonna go back to a fit view, and I want to save this and then I'm going to move on to some of the other sheets.
05:31
Now if I select a title block, and right click, I have the option to once again create a new title, block, edit or edit the properties.
05:39
There's something else that we can do with the title block on this detail drawing.
05:43
I'm going to go ahead and zoom up to the top, make sure that I fit this to screen and I'm going to go into my sheet settings,
05:50
and notice that we have our sheet size and our title block.
05:54
If we select Change title block, we can use our custom title block that we created on our first sheet,
06:00
or we can use any other custom title blocks that we may have created.
06:05
In this case for my second sheet I'm going to go ahead and use that custom title block, but I'm going to leave the defaults for sheets three and four.
06:15
From here, let's make sure that we do save this detailed drawing before moving on to the next step.
